Twilight fans, rejoice! Stephenie Meyer, the author of the Twilight series just announced the launch of her new book, titled Midnight Sun. This new book is ready to hit the shelves on August 4, 2020, nearly 15 years after the launch of the first book. Midnight Sun will narrate the story from Edward Cullen's point of view.
The very first book of the Twilight series hit the shelves in 2005 and turned into an international sensation. Selling over 100 million copies worldwide, the book was then followed up with three more sequels titled New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn. The vampire-human love story was even adapted into a series of movie deals starring Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattison. Needless to say, the movies made billions in ticket sales.
Last week, Stephenie teased fans by posting a cryptic timer on her website that was set to end on May 4, 2020. And come the morning of May 4, the timer drew her fans into a frenzy. There were so many hits on her website that it crashed. In a video posted on Good Morning America, Meyer finally dropped the bomb all her fans had been waiting for.
"It's a crazy time right now and I wasn't sure if it was the right time to put this book out but some of you have been waiting for just so, so long, it didn't seem fair to make you wait anymore," said Meyer.
JUST IN: 15 years after the first novel in the “Twilight” saga was released, author Stephenie Meyer is bringing readers back to Forks, Washington, with her new book, “Midnight Sun.” Find the details here: https://t.co/IHD4UfAkkI pic.twitter.com/ZY3ZqnBahG— Good Morning America (@GMA) May 4, 2020
"It feels strange to be making this announcement when the world is suffering through a pandemic, and no one really knows what's next. I thought seriously about delaying this announcement until things were back to normal; however, that felt wrong, considering how long those who are eager for this book have already waited. I know how much I personally need distractions right now, how much I need something to look forward to and most of all, how much I need more books to read. I hope this book gives my readers a little pleasure to anticipate and if it arrives, a chance to live in an imaginary world for a while. I can’t express how much I appreciate the patience of my readers, and their support over the years it took to finish Midnight Sun," Stephenie said in a statement made to a leading publication.
Stephenie first teased fans about a follow up to the Twilight series back in 2008. She released a first draft of the very first chapter of Midnight Sun on her website, it was called First Sight. After a series of unfortunate events and numerous leaks on other chapters of the manuscript, Stephenie decided to shelve the project.
Guess there is a light at the end of the (long, endless) tunnel that is 2020 after all--for Twilight fans at least!
