Among the 928 new members invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, our favourites from Bollywood are present too.
Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit, Anil Kapoor, Naseeruddin Shah, Tabu, Ali Fazal and Aditya Chopra have been invited to join Oscars Academy.
Apart from the known faces, cinematographer Anil Mehta and costume designers Dolly Ahluwalia and Manish Malhotra too have been sent invites to be a part of the Oscars' jury.
The Indians invited to join the Academy includes actors who are familiar to American audiences through their appearances in international productions.
Indians have been sent invites to attend the Oscars often. Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone, Anil Kapoor, Ali Fazal among many others have attended the awards night in their glamorous outfits.
In an interaction with a daily, Anil Mehta said, "More than a personal achievement, I see this more like the Academy finally recognizing that there are many nations and many types of cinemas – that there is a whole other world out there."
"It is a very good sign coming from the academy. America has generally been a nation that looks inwards. They’re finally looking outwards and are consciously making space for a whole universe of cinema," he added.
Isn't it amazing to see this initiative finally? It's about time the Oscars stopped being all about the white males. After all, change is the only constant.
