‘Chhota Sa Bluetooth Speaker’: Neha Kakkar Slams Popular TV Comedians For Body-Shaming Her

Comedy is a tricky business. Or is it? There’s a difference between being funny and making fun of someone. And comedy may not always be light-hearted. Sometimes there’s an edge to humour that might amuse some while hurting or angering others. Unfortunately, a few comedians in our country take a different route and a lot of what is funny for them involves making jokes at someone else’s expense. We are talking about popular artists Kiku Sharda and Gaurav Gera who are being slammed by netizens for their piece on singer Neha Kakkar.

Their segment titled, Dr Pran Lele, that airs on Sony Max in-between movies, features Kiku as the doctor and Gaurav as the nurse. In the recent episode, their patient was a male guest, short in height, dressed as a girl named ‘Neha Shakkar’. Here’s how the video opens:

Kiku to Gaurav: BP ki machine ke saath koi chhota sa Bluetooth speaker bhi order kiya tha kya tumne?

*The character introduces herself as Neha Shakkar, singer*

Gaurav: Chhotu, Neha Shakkar nahi, tum Neha Kankar lag rahi ho. Tumse badi size ki bindi lagati hai Bhusha Uthup (Usha Uthup).

In addition, Neha’s character is shown taking non-stop selfies saying hashtags out loud. Naturally, this kind of ‘comedy’ wasn’t appreciated by the singer, her family as well as her fans. Soon, she took to her Instagram stories and slammed the artists (without naming them) for their actions. Here’s what she wrote:

Neha was deeply affected by the jokes on her height, looks and songs, as any hardworking artist would be. She even added a swipe-up link to the video. The video was taken down from the channel. “I wish I could show more people how low some people can go to insult somebody famous, just because she is independent,” read another Insta story by the singer.

But, her brother and singer Tony Kakkar fulfilled this wish of hers by sharing an IGTV post of the video he had saved before the video was deleted. He posted a long caption along with it explaining why it left him “heartbroken” as a singer and a human being.

“This is how you respect a small-town girl who achieved everything on her own with so much struggle in life. Being a short girl My sister has already suffered a lot. Do you understand what a person goes through when you make fun about her/his body size or shape.”

He also wrote that the comedians were trying to damage her career by saying all the wrong things about her talent. “Those who don’t understand music much would believe you easily coz you are a big national tv Channel. Fact is nobody becomes number 1 just by fluke and that too of a country which has a population of 1.3 billion 😐,” he further wrote.

Tony always has the back of his Nehu. Luckily, this sweet gesture by the Dheeme Dheeme singer gave Neha the motivation to not pay any heed to trolls. This and the flood of supportive messages Neha received from her wellwishers changed her perspective for the good. Soon, she shared a post on her Instagram profile thanking her Insta fam for sending her so much love, and urging them to forgive and forget. She posted:

Neha Kakkar bravely showed us it’s better to take the high road. We are inspired! More power to you, Neha and to your ever-growing family of #NeHearts!
