Actress Sara Ali Khan, who was last seen in Simmba, wished her fans on Ganesh Chaturthi, and like most of the other Bollywood celebrities, she shared a picture of herself next to a Ganesha idol. Sara wrote, "Ganpati Bappa Morya!! May Ganesh Ji remove all your obstacles, and fill your year with laughter, positivity and success. 🙏🏻🙌🏻💐🌸💫🌠💥🍰🧿🔮🎊🎉🎈💝🕉
The post led to fundamentalist trolls attacking the actress. Sara, who comes from a Hindu-Muslim family (father, Saif Ali Khan, and mother, Amrita Singh) celebrated the festival but was called out for being "a Muslim and celebrating a Hindu festival."
Here are some of the outrageous comments, which shamed the actress for celebrating the festival.
However, there were many who stood up for the actress and spoke about how secularism should be encouraged in India. They even applauded the actress for celebrating both the festivals, Eid as well as Ganesh Chaturthi.
While the actress is yet to comment on this controversy, it is appalling to see the reactions her post has received on social media. Belonging to a secular nation, the citizens of India, even those who are constantly in the spotlight, should have the freedom to hold religious beliefs of their own. Sara's decision isn't something that should be questioned or ridiculed publicly.
The actress is currently shooting for the Coolie No. 1 remake, which will be directed by David Dhawan and stars Varun Dhawan. Sara recently wrapped up the shoot of Aaj Kal, where she will be seen opposite her rumoured boyfriend, Kartik Aaryan of Pyaar Ka Punchnama fame.
