Of All Things Royal, Romantic And Filmy – If we had to write a book about the love story of Kareena Kapoor Khan and Saif Ali Khan, this would be an apt title, don’t you think? Out of all the celebrity couples that we have seen till now, Saif and Kareena or Saifeena, as they are called, have an aura like none other. The star from one of the oldest Bollywood families – the Kapoor Khandaan met the Nawab from the Pataudi clan and created one of the dreamiest and filmiest love stories that would be remembered for generations to come.
People adore Kareena and Saif not because they put up a lot of pictures of their vacations or their family time on social media. In fact, the two do not even have an Instagram profile to being with! They are loved because of how amazing they are with each other, and how much they care. They have a certain mystery around them and even though they are a celebrity couple, details of their love story are not known to many. But let’s fix that, shall we? Jab They Met
Since Saif had worked with Kareena’s sister Karisma a lot, they had always been in touch. But they worked together for the first time in LOC Kargil in 2003 and then in Omkara in 2006. Then came Tashan in 2008 and post that, the rumours of Saif and Kareena dating each other started doing the rounds. Reports suggested that they had been dating since 2007 and slowly fell in love. Kareena once said in an interview:
“I unabashedly wore my heart on my sleeve and it was a nice ride till I finally met Saif and we fell in love.”
The Proposal(s)
Saif may be a Nawab, but Kareena is no less than a princess. So Saif had to work twice as hard to get her to marry him. Yep, you read that right. There were two proposals. The first proposal happened at the Ritz Hotel in Paris. This is what Kareena once said about the same on a TV show:
“He actually proposed to me a couple of months after we met only in Paris. In fact, his father proposed to his mother also in Paris when she was shooting a film ‘An Evening in Paris’. And we were on a holiday in Paris as well and I was just like ‘yeah, of course’. I think it was at the bar and then I think I said no and then there was one more time, on the same trip, and then we were at the Notre Dame Church. I was just like let’s not talk about it. Because I was into my career and I was like ‘let me think about it’ and obviously two days later I was like ‘yeah okay’.”
The Next Step – A Pathbreaking Wedding
After living together for almost five years, Saif and Kareena decided to take the plunge after the filmy Paris proposal. All of us are aware that Saif’s mom Sharmila Tagore is a Hindu who converted to Islam and became Ayesha Sultana in order to get married to Nawab Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, who was a famous cricketer at the time. Saif and Kareena decided that love was beyond religion and caste, so Kareena did not convert to Islam post marriage. In fact, their wedding was quite a pathbreaking one. They did not have a nikaah or a traditional Hindu ceremony with saat pheras. They hosted a star-studded mehendi and sangeet bash and later just exchanged their wedding vows at the Taj Mahal Hotel on 16 October 2012.
Life After Marriage And Of Course, Taimur!
Saif and Kareena are a pretty chill couple. They make marriage look like a piece of cake, a walk in the park or in their case, the streets of London and Switzerland. Their take on making a marriage work is simple. Saif once revealed in an interview:
“For me, it is very important to feel calm about the person I am with, and not distracted or worried. If one is happy at home, it shows on one’s face, and in one’s work. Kareena has made me feel secure about our relationship, so I am happy being with her.”
The happiness shows on their faces, and after the arrival of their little bundle of joy, the munchkin Taimur, life seems to be prettier than ever for the Pataudis. They welcomed him into the world and their lives (and our lives!) on 20 December 2016. Both Kareena and Saif are very hands-on parents. They understand the importance of spending quality time with their kid and are often spotted enjoying playdates and outings with the little one.
