Richa Chadha Slams The Government & Says 'Change #BetiBachao To #BetiHumHiSeBachao'

How safe is India's beti? Well, an average Indian family is waking up to at least one or more news featuring rape, eve-teasing or female foeticide, every day, so you do the math.

A rape and abduction case was lodged against former Junior Home Minister Swami Chinamayanand more than seven years ago. Now, instead of doing justice, the Yogi Adityanath government has decided to withdraw the case. Chinamayanand, who was booked in November 2011 for raping a young girl in his ashram, used to serve under the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government.

Richa Chadha, a brilliant Bollywood actress who is strong both on and off screen, has shown her disappointment on Twitter with the withdrawal of the rape case. She's highly upset and suggests that government should change the name of the much-talked-about campaign Beti Bachao to Beti Hum Hi Se Bachao and we agree. Letting go of a rapist just reduces faith of many in the system.

The girl allegedly stayed at his Haridwar ashram for years and was raped by the minister. Her father had lodged an FIR at Kotwali police station in Shahjahanpur against him. After Chinamayanand moved to high court, his arrest stayed. The case has been pending since then. Reportedly, the girl was issued life threats to keep her mouth shut.

In her tweet, Richa also made a reference to the Unnao rape case in which a BJP MLA was accused of raping a minor a year ago. The 18-year-old woman tried to immolate herself near Yogi Adityanath's residence on Sunday. Later, the father of the victim died in police custody. She also mentioned the recent abduction, rape and murder case of an 8-year-old in Jammu & Kashmir. Unfortunately, with such painful matrix, we are going nowhere good.

With a sinful government and helpless system like this, we might soon have to start a Beti Khud Ko Bachayegi campaign!
