Rajkummar Rao’s Adorable Acceptance Speech Made Our Day!

Rarely do we come across works of cinema that are masterpieces - sheer brilliance encapsulated in a span of a few hours. Rajkummar Rao’s Newton is one such film. Although it did not do very well at the Indian box office (no surprise there), it did receive its fair share of appreciation worldwide.

Directed by Amit V Masurkar, Newton has received two awards at the prestigious Asia Pacific Screen Awards in Brisbane. This movie is also India’s official entry to the Oscars 2018 in the ‘Foreign Language Film’ category.

Rajkummar won the Best Actor award for his performance, while Amit V Masurkar was honoured for Best Screenplay.

The elated actor put up a picture of himself on Instagram with the caption:

“Won the best actor award at the most prestigious #APSA2017 (Asia Pacific Screen Awards). Thank you Maa. Thank u team #Newton. Don’t stop chasing your dreams because they really do come true.”

Well, true that!

Rajkummar had recently injured his ankle, so he had to come to receive the award with a broken one. But, that did not affect his excitement and zeal in the least. His winning speech did not only win our hearts, but everyone present at the ceremony was ecstatic. Here is what the supremely down-to-earth actor had to say…

“This is very encouraging… It inspires me to work harder everyday. Congratulation to fellow nominees, your performances have inspired all of us. Let us keep doing this beautiful work making these wonderful stories. Let us keep doing that. Here is to cinema.”

With these words he accepted the award, and left the stage, only to immediately turn back to say a few more words. But, they wore words that touched our hearts most. He continued…

“I am sorry. Can I take 10 more seconds? It is very important. It was a hard time for us to make this film. When I was shooting for this film, my dear mother passed away. We were shooting in the forests of Chhattisgarh. It is because of her blessings, I believe that Newton is getting all these appreciations. So thank you mom and I love you.”
