So Priyanka Chopra's memoir Unfinished just got released and all she wants to ask is if you'd give "this first-time author a chance?" If you were to take our opinion, we'd say go ahead and say "yes" 'coz PC has indeed given us some really interesting insights into her life. From her high-risk US move to marrying Nick Jonas, the book gives us a sneak-peek into her larger than life story. Also, she hasn't shied away from sharing her vulnerabilities and has made a lot of revelations, both dark and hilarious.
Scroll down to read some of the revelations made by her in Unfinished:
Amid all the glam and glitz, there's a certain sinister side of the film industry and PC had her experience of the same when a director legit asked her to 'fix' herself. She reveals that all of this happened soon after her Miss World win.
“After a few minutes of small talk, the director/producer told me to stand up and twirl for him. I did. He stared at me long and hard, assessing me, and then suggested that I get a boob job, fix my jaw, and add a little more cushioning to my butt. If I wanted to be an actress, he said I’d need to have my proportions ‘fixed’, and he knew a great doctor in LA he could send me to. My then-manager voiced his agreement with the assessment," she shares.
PC had to undergo a nose surgery for polyp (soft, painless growths inside the nasal passages) in her nasal cavity. in 2001, but the surgeon accidentally shaved off the bridge of her nose. She needed multiple surgeries to fix it. “While shaving off the polyp, the doctor also accidentally shaved the bridge of my nose and the bridge collapsed. When it was time to remove the bandages and the condition of my nose was revealed, Mom and I were horrified. My original nose was gone. My face looked completely different. I wasn’t me anymore,” the global star wrote in her book," she shares.
When PC was studying in the US, a group of girls harassed her by calling her names like 'brownie' and told her she 'smelled like curry.' "I was treated differently because I’m brown. I had, you know, really racist behavior when I was in high school in 10th grade. I was called ‘Brownie,’ ‘Curry,’ (told to) ‘go back on the elephant you came on,’ and that really affected me when I was a kid and affected my self-esteem," the actress said.
Sharing another horrible incident from her initial days in the industry, Priyanka has talked about how a lewd director once expected her to show off her undergarments in a song. She shares, “The director suggested I speak to my stylist, so I called him and briefly explained the situation, then passed the phone to the director. Standing right in front of me, the director said: “Jo bhi ho, chaddiyan dikhni chahiyen. Nahi toh log picture kyon dekhne aayenge? (whatever happens, panties should be seen. Otherwise, why would people come to watch the movie?).” The actress quit the project that very instant and we are so proud that she did.
In a heartbreaking recollection from her boarding school days, PC has also talked about how she found it really hard to adjust there. Back then, she was just in class three and was too scared to talk to anyone. One of those nights, she puked in her bed and then too scared to tell anyone, ended up sleeping in her own vomit.
“I’m not sure if I’d eaten something bad or if my sickness was due to the anxiety and fear that sometimes gripped my stomach. Not wanting to get in trouble for making a fuss, I went to sleep with a puddle of vomit in my bed and didn’t tell a soul."
Oh dear, our hearts go out to little PC.
Think Priyanka stayed eerily mum all through the nepotism debate? We finally know what's her take on the topic. In her memoir, PC talks about how the insiders over outsiders culture has always existed in Bollywood and shares how she had to deal with the same.
"Over and over again I had to prove to the studios, which were mostly family-owned, that I deserved a seat at their table – which was not easy when I overheard comments at parties like, ‘I got her cast in this movie and I can take it away from her as well,'" she writes.
In Unfinished, Priyanka recollects her school days in America. She has shared how she ended up falling for a boy named 'Bob' in 10th standard and a romance ensued. Well, some hilarious mess followed when Priyanka was soon found by her aunt at their home, hand in hand with the guy.
Priyanka shares, “One day Bob and I were sitting on the couch watching television, innocently holding hands, when suddenly, outside the window on the sidewalk below, I saw my aunt making her way up the stairs. I panicked. It was 2 in the afternoon and not her usual time to return. There was no way Bob could go outside the house and he and I ran to my room and I shoved him into my closet.”
She added, “Stay there until I can send her to the grocery store. Kiran masi entered the house and started looking into each room carefully. I was sitting on my bed, with my biology book, pretending I was studying. She came to my doorway and said “Open it” and I asked her “open what.” “Open your closet,” said my aunt. I was shaken as I have never seen my aunt this angry. I opened the closet door, it was a big mess: a boy came out.”
And guess what? The aunt did go ahead and complained to Priyanka's mom. Wow..that's a big oopsie!
