Priyanka Chopra Jonas featured on the July cover of InStyle magazine in a designer saree and divided the Internet into two - the curious and the furious. Curious are those who are fascinated by the traditional Indian outfit (so foreigners mostly); and furious are those who are shocked by the fact that PeeCee wore a saree without a blouse when she was representing India on an international platform.
She wore a shimmery saree by Tarun Tahiliani and wrote, "Fashion is such an important part of global culture, often arising from centuries of tradition, and doesn’t go out of style when the seasons change."
Furthering the damage, Laura Brown, the magazine's editor-in-chief, shared a BTS video of PeeCee from the shoot on her Instagram stories. In the video, you can see her sensually dancing in a blouse-less saree, flaunting her bare back.
And the Internet is raging at Priyanka's choice. "The 'Saree' is one of the most iconic and recognized silhouettes from India. To me, its beauty lies in its versatility, not just in drape and fabric. It embodies elegance, femininity, and power, and I love how I feel when I’m wearing one," added the actress. Well, so do we, Priyanka, but not this one. Here's what angry fans have to say about her look:
Fans are not happy with the way the six yards of finesse has been portrayed by the 36-year-old actress and it's quite evident from these comments.
Soon after the video went viral, Tarun Tahiliani reacted to people trolling her for her saree look, "There's nothing vulgar about it. In fact, not using a choli makes it a global statement. The transition from alluring Indian beauty to this modern goddess for a mainstream fashion cover only speaks of her versatility. She is truly a modern Indian icon."
