My obsession with Kasautii Zindagii Kay died out a few weeks ago when Ekta Kapoor gave us the most sexist episode ever, with Komolika and Prerna in a terrible face-off. However, maybe there is still potential to salvage this show, because, in the recent promo, Prerna is more than just a damsel in distress.
In case you haven’t been following the show, a lot has happened! But if you’ve been coming across the occasional promos on TV then you’re all caught up. Anurag Basu and Prerna Sharma confessed that they love each other, went to a mandir and promised each other they will get married soon. But Dhish Dhish Dhish, enter Komolika aka Hina Khan, who wants Anurag Basu and this spoilt brat always gets what she wants. So she blackmails Anurag with Prerna’s property papers and he submits into marrying her, ditching Prerna in a bitter way.
However, unlike all the other times Ekta Kapoor’s actresses have failed to impress, Prerna might still have hope. In the latest promo of the show, Prerna shows Anurag the big middle finger and walks into his house saying, ‘Main tumhari pehli biwi hoon.’ WHAT?! YASSS girl!

I have never been more proud of a Hindi television character for standing up for herself. After Anurag Basu called her names and told her she doesn’t deserve him and his money (technically because he thought he was saving her from the damage Komolika could cause), she slapped him and then decided to get some hardcore revenge.
No more a bechaari, Prerna Sharma is redefining television women. I do know that they will eventually succumb and fall back in love with each other as Komolika robs Anurag of all his property and leaves the Basu family penniless. Ekta Kapoor shows mostly go down this route so I’m placing my bets on this storyline. But for now, Prerna is not a terrible role model and maybe I’ll even go back to watching Kasautii Zindagii Kay!
