It’s a sad day for music lovers all over the world. Swedish-born EDM producer and DJ Avicii has been found dead in Muscat, Oman. He was 28 years old. The official cause of death has not been revealed.
His publicist Diana Baron confirmed in the statement, “The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time. No further statements will be given.”
Born Tim Bergling, the EDM star gave the world many hits, including Wake Me Upand Levels. He was nominated twice for the coveted Grammy Awards. His last album EP Avīci (01) came out in August 2017 and just three days ago, he tweeted his thanks after he was nominated for the Billboard Music Award for Top Dance/Electronic Album.
One of the top paid DJs in the industry, Avicii retired from live performances in 2016 because of health problems. He had acute pancreatitis due to excessive drinking and had his gallbladder and appendix removed in 2014.
He wrote this heartfelt note on his website when he announced his retirement.
"WE ALL REACH A POINT IN OUR LIVES AND CAREERS WHERE WE UNDERSTAND WHAT MATTERS THE MOST TO US.
For me it’s creating music. That is what I live for, what I feel I was born to do.
Last year I quit performing live, and many of you thought that was it. But the end of live never meant the end of Avicii or my music. Instead, I went back to the place where it all made sense – the studio.
The next stage will be all about my love of making music to you guys. It is the beginning of something new.
Hope you´ll enjoy it as much as I do."
We are still shocked with this sad bit of news and wish his family and friends strength to bear the loss.
