WHAT? Koffee With Karan Going Off Air Is Not The Tea I Was Ready For… Or Was I?

WHAT? Koffee With Karan Going Off Air Is Not The Tea I Was Ready For… Or Was I?

Well, well, well, looks like we are the ones with hot goss today! If reports are to believed, we won’t get to hear Karan Johar say “Hello and welcome back to Koffee With Karan!” ever again. After six seasons, some awards and nominations, 135 episodes, thousands of secrets, and a handful of career-destroying revelations, the controversial celebrity talk show has run out of beans to spill. In other words, it has come to an end. With Star World, the channel telecasting the show, shutting in India; KWK‘s climax looks decided. Now all that’s brewing is steam and how.

In a report by Bollywood Hungama, a source close to the development said, “Plans to shut down Star World were afoot for some time now. And Star had decided to move Karan Johar’s chat show to another channel owned by the group. But now with all the unsavoury controversy surrounding the chat show after Sushant Singh Rajput’s death, Star has decided to close it down.” KWK and KJo have caught negative attention many times in the past for glorifying toxic masculinity but after getting dragged into Sushant’s tragic passing away, nepotism doesn’t seem a small part of the highlights anymore.

As the industry started pouring in condolences and heartfelt messages for Sushant after the actor’s death by suicide, Karan Johar and Alia Bhatt were the first ones to face attacks of nepotism and hypocrisy for things said on the talk show. During one episode, Alia had gone on record and said “Sushant Singh Rajput, who?” and netizens sure remembered that well.

In fact, Ranbir Kapoor had once commented on why he won’t be a part of KWK anymore, “I told him (Karan) I don’t want to come. Me and Anushka actually going to protest and get the entire film industry together to stop this because it’s not fair. He’s making money out of us. We come and we get screwed through the air. It’s not right.” Ranbir’s protest may not have seen the light of the day (heck, his girlfriend Alia Bhatt was the first guest on the latest season 6 along with his ex Deepika Padukone), but it sure reached its goal. Probably not how he wanted it to.

Meanwhile, no official statement has been released by the channel officials. Does that mean this is it on the Koffee runs? For Star, yes. For Disney+ Hotstar, we don’t know? For KJo, only time will tell!
