#MeToo: Jacqueline Fernandez And Soni Razdan Speak Up About Sexual Harassment

The #MeToo movement in India has paved a way for women to come forward and openly speak about their experiences with harassment. It triggered when Tanushree Dutta decided to speak up about an incident that happened on the sets of the film Horn OK Pleassss.

Many actors have come forward since and said “Me Too”. Recently, Jacqueline Fernandez spoke to the media after a fashion show that she supports the movement and that this dialogue has been long overdue. Not just in the film industry but in society as well.

Commenting further, Jacqueline said, “Unfortunately, the sad truth is sexual predators are all around us.”

She further added saying, “They are sometimes in our own household so, we should not deviate from the actual issue which is not entirely about sex but it’s about the power struggle. We really have to stick to the issue and be serious about it if we want solutions and if we want to have a safe workplace for everyone and for society.”

Recently, the veteran actress Soni Razdan discussed an incident as well. Speaking about her story to the Quint, Razdan said, “Like there was an incident that happened to me when I was on a film shoot and somebody tried to rape me, for example, that kind of thing. Luckily they didn’t succeed.”

The actress, who had earlier said that women should not be judged for not sharing their stories, reasoned why she never spoke or reported that incident to anyone, “You know the only reason I never said anything at that time and it sounds really odd maybe but I realised if I would have opened my mouth that person would have gone through a lot of problems. He had a family, small children. And at that time I said, ok, nothing really happened, I managed to control it but obviously I never spoke to that person again. I did not, not talk about it because of any shame or anything like that. I felt that I would be hurting his family, whom I knew.”

Though, she later said that if the incident were to happen today then she would’ve taken things differently, complained and filed a case against that person. She also further spoke about Alok Nath, who has been accused by Vinta Nanda that, “I have seen him behave very very, I would say, lecherously after he has been drunk. Even at one time, I wouldn’t say he made a pass at me but I didn’t like the way he was looking at me.”

Here is a list of all the #MeTooIndia stories that have cropped up in the last few weeks.
