12 Iconic Met Gala Looks To Fill The Fashion Void In Your Heart, Now That It’s Postponed

12 Iconic Met Gala Looks To Fill The Fashion Void In Your Heart, Now That It’s Postponed

From Coachella to the Indian Premier League, as various events across the globe take a hit due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Met Gala seems to have joined the list with the event being postponed for an “indefinite period.” While the Met (Metropolitan Museum of Art) was swiftly shut down last week, it was only yesterday that the decision was announced on the annual gala to come. As per recent reports, it has been internally circulated among all Met staffers that “all programs and events through May 15 will be cancelled or postponed.”

“Due to the unavoidable and responsible decision by the Metropolitan Museum to close its doors, About Time and the opening night gala will be postponed to a later date,” Met Gala host, Anna Wintour, wrote in a media statement.

Sponsored by luxury fashion house Louis Vuitton, this year’s exhibition was in the media buzz right after its theme ‘About Time: Fashion and Duration’ was revealed. As the fate of the biggest fashion event of the year hangs in mid-air, we can’t help but sigh at how the pandemic has effectively disrupted the first quarter of 2020 for literally everyone across the world.

Speaking of disruptions, as we sit in the confined spaces of our homes, we can’t help but constantly think of the avant-garde fashion that the Met Gala has introduced us to. With the red carpet postponed indefinitely, we decided to look into all the internet-breaking Met Gala looks from the recent years that we still (read forever) can’t get over. Hopefully, this flashback will satiate our fashion appetites for a while. All set to be blown away by an array of iconic fashion looks from the steps of the Met?

Priyanka Chopra In Dior

TBH, we found it odd but we were quite impressed by Priyanka Chopra’s comprehension of the Met Gala 2019 theme ‘Camp: Notes on Fashion’. That’s what makes this look iconic and our Desi Girl top our list.

Blake Lively In Atelier Versace

Blake Lively really did look a “Heavenly Body” as she managed to invoke some Haute holiness in her Renaissance-inspired Versace outfit and it’s the jewel-encrusted bodice. Serena Wan Der Woodsen was proud too!

Lupita Nyong’o In Calvin Klein

SBS

The world looked in awe as Lupita Nyong’o decided to pay homage to her cultural heritage dressed in the Calvin Klein seafoam gown and we too were hooked. From that progressively transparent skirt to that sky-high hair-do, everything about her look had the fashion circuits enthralled for days.

Rihanna In Guo Pei

Remember when Rihanna got the fashion circuits as well as the meme lords across the world equally thrilled with her Guo Pei spread? We do. Like it was yesterday!

This one goes to Beyonce for giving us one of the most naked red carpet dress of all times and reminding us of Cher’s iconic Met Gala look from 1974.

Lady Gaga In Versace

Lady Gaga made it to the 2016 Met Gala in her trademark eccentric avatar as she sauntered the red carpet in a metallic jacket and gravity-defying boots. How are they not named after the star already?!

Sarah Jessica Parker In Philip Treacy

As Sarah Jessica Parker traversed the distance for ‘Chaos to Couture’ 2013 Met Gala red carpet, all eyes remained glued to that custom designed Philip Treacy headgear that is sure to go down in the red carpet annals as the most iconic accessory. Carrie Bradshaw-approved and how!

Doesn’t Kate Moss look like a silver Goddess in this Grecian metallic mini by Marc Jacobs? The world was transfixed as Kate doused herself in silver, head-to-toe, for a look. One look!

Kim Kardashian In Versace

We were left gaping as Kim K showed up for the 2018 Met Gala red carpet looking like a little too literal interpretation of the red carpet theme ‘Heavenly Bodies’ in her skin-tight Versace gown. But none of us is complaining, are we?

Billy Porter In The Blonds

Instagram

Bizarre, camp, and every bit ironic, that’s how we’d like to describe Billy Porter’s all-gold look from the Met Gala 2019. It would be tough to decide if it’s the theatrical history (that Cleopatra is sure to approve of) or that bejewelled catsuit that will take longer to fade from our minds?
