The movie is written by the makers of Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and Baahubali. When asked about the film in a recent interview with a leading news agency, the actress said, “I am proud of this film, and of portraying a character who empowers and inspires. We have put in our heart, blood and sweat into making this film. Manikarnika will make every Indian proud.” Kangana Ranaut can be seen playing a mother, with her child in her arms as she decides to take the decision of fighting in a war. The story of Manikarnika illustrates the different aspects of her life and struggles, hopefully the film will do the same.

Manikarnika stars Jishu Sengupta, Suresh Oberoi, Danny Denzongappa, Atul Kulkarni, Ankita Lokhande and Zeeshan Ayub alongside Kangana. The film also had Sonu Sood in a prominent role before he decided to walk out of it.

The outfits for the film are predominantly khadi, raw cotton and brocade, designed by Neeta Lulla. When asked about her designs, the designer said,“I feel khadi embodies a lot of character. I feel everyone (not just designers but actors too) in the public sphere have a social responsibility to promote the fabric of freedom, not only because it involves history and heritage but because khadi has the potential to employ the largest number of people in rural areas. Wearing khadi means paying homage to craftsperson who spin the yarn on the charkha. Even in the machine-age, they work round-the-clock to produce the hand-spun fabric.”

“I think khadi needs to be popularised to a great extent and mainstream cinema will be able to do full justice in promoting the fabric to the millennial generation and the masses alike,” the designer concluded while talking to a leading newspaper.
