Actress and host Mandira Bedi has been working in the industry for more than two decades. From the sweet girl-next-door in Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge to a social activist in The Tashkent Files, she has carved a niche for herself as one of the finest artists we have seen on screen. She has also inspired us with her fitness regime and her posts on Instagram are all about #FitnessGoals.
While we all admire her for her bold choices and strong views on issues, her recent revelations have left us all stunned. The actress confessed that she put motherhood on hold for 12 long years in order to keep her carrer going. Mandira Bedi revealed that she gave birth to her son when she was 39, only because her contracts didn’t allow her to get pregnant. The actress added that her career would have come to an end if she got pregnant.
Speaking of her real life struggles, she added, "In my 20s, I was carving a space for myself in the world of entertainment. My 30s was the time that was riddled with insecurities. Now in my 40s, I’m feeling the best I’ve ever felt. There is self-love, and acceptance. I often told that women don’t have a long shelf life in the entertainment industry."
She also said, "When people would ask me why did I leave cricket or pity me saying, ‘Oh, you aren’t doing cricket anymore’, I would have a sinking feeling in my stomach. It took me time to accept the change and realise that I didn’t leave cricket, it was they (organisers) who moved on to somebody new."
Speaking of insecurities being a self-made woman in the industry, Mandira added, "I thought my work is going to stop any day... looking at other actors working more than me on TV and films made me feel very insecure."
She admitted that the entertainment business is brutal and she couldn’t have done it without her husband, who has been a huge support all through.
At the age of 47, Mandira Bedi has proved that age is just another number. The actor inspires many with her commitment to self-care, which includes a healthy fitness routine. Even with her busy schedule, the Saaho star ensures that her health doesn't take a backseat and she has confessed that she works out even in hotel rooms!
