Bollywood Is Absolutely ON The Unibrow Bandwagon And We Couldn’t Be Happier!

Is she awesome or is she AWESOME? Deepika Padukone finally, gave everyone the first look at the much-awaited Padmavati poster. After combating all that real-life drama and violence on the sets of the movie, Sanjay Leela Bhansali is all set to release Padmavati on 1st December and we know you can’t wait to watch it.

Deepika’s work history with SLB is known to everyone. Donning that regal lehenga, ornate jewellery and palla, she has done it all before. She’s been wearing royal attire for Bhansali as Gujarati Leela, a Mastani in love and now as Padmavati. And knowing the maestro SLB is, he keeps royalty close to its authenticity, as much as possible. It was only fair to expect the same for the ‘Rani Padmavati’ look as well. The unibrow is no experiment, ladies. It’s just how a Rajput Queen from Rajasthan would have looked theoretically during that era.

This trend isn’t new to Bollywood nor is it new for royalty but it sure is daring today because everyone is so used to taking a trip to the salon at least twice a month that idea of a unibrow is odd for many. There sure are many negative tweets on Deepika’s look as well and we can waste our time being offended by them but we prefer to celebrate the fact that after Kajol as Simran and Vidya Balan as Begum Jaan, Deepika Padukone as Padmavati will help clear the air about the unibrow even more.

It’s not just one country, the unibrow look has been pursued as shabby globally but no one should have the right to comment on an individual’s personality or preference or even their genetics. We all adore and respect iconic Mexican painter, Frida Kahlo’s style. Recently, Sophia Hadjipanteli, a Greek Cypriot student and model refused to pluck her eyebrows because she considers them a part of her personality as she wrote on one of her Instagram posts, “I have a unibrow because it is a preference. I’m who I am because I want to be this way. When you judge others for wearing makeup, dyeing their hair, altering parts of their body or inner self, JUST BECAUSE YOU DON’T, makes you just as toxic as a lot of societal norms and pressures we are constantly faced with. AT THE END OF THE DAY just do you cuz imma be doing me whether you like it or not.”

Makes sense, right? Like it or not, the unibrow is a beauty look that has been around for ages, literally. It was predicted to be the biggest trend this summer as Frida Kahlo has inspired uncountable shoots. There were over 70,000 pictures tagged #unibrow on Instagram and this look is symbolically marked as rebellious.

It’s a choice and it was a recent choice made by New-Zealand singer and songwriter, Lorde as well. Her recent cover shoot for an international magazine was a slap in the face of the people who consider tweezers more important than the feelings of people who support or sport a unibrow. But as expected, she faced hate comments as well through the misused-mighty-platforms of social media. Don’t worry though, Lorde had the perfect response for her haters. And then the supporters stepped in.

Two brows, unibrow or no brows, make it an individual choice and own it, ladies. This or that, you are beautiful.

If your school days didn’t allow you to live that moment, wait until you see Deepika’s Rani Padmavati owning the movie with a unibrow on screen, we’ll wake you up when November ends.

Till then, maintain those eyebrows with nothing but the best,
