From CBI Probe To ED Investigation: Key Developments In Sushant Singh Rajput’s Case So Far

In the course of two months, Sushant Singh Rajput’s death has been widely discussed with several parallel narratives being reported by the media. The Central Bureau Of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) are currently investigating the case. In a welcome move last week, the centre agreed to transfer the case to CBI after there was a turf war between Bihar and the Maharashtra police over the case. And today, the Supreme Court is expected to announce its final decision over whether the late actor’s suicide will be probed by Maharashtra police or the CBI.

Meanwhile, Rhea Chakraborty, her brother Showik Chakraborty, Sushant’s flatmate Siddharth Pithani, his former business manager Shruti Modi and sister Mitu Singh have already been called for questioning by the ED.

While we’ve been witnessing a new twist in the case everyday, the most dramatic turning point was when Sushant’s father KK Singh filed an FIR against Sushant’s girlfriend Rhea and some of her family members for abetting his suicide. The CBI has filed a case against her and several others. Here are all the latest developments in SSR case:

Sushant’s Sister Demands CBI Probe

Sushant’s sister Shweta Singh Kirti has been quite active on her social media accounts, demanding justice for the late actor. In the most recent development, she has reiterated the family’s demand for a CBI probe. She posted a picture of her holding a placard that read. “I am sister of Sushant Singh Rajput and I request for #CBIforSSR”.

She captioned it as, “It’s time we find the truth and get justice. Please help our family and the whole world to know what the truth is and find closure, otherwise we will never be able to live a peaceful life!!#CBIForSSR Raise your voice and demand #JusticeForSushantSinghRajput #WarriorsForSSR @sushantsinghrajput”.

Shweta also posted a video and wrote, “We stand together as a nation for CBI Enquiry! Demanding an unbiased investigation is our right and we expect nothing but the truth to come out. 🙏 #CBIForSSR #Warriors4SSR #justiceforSushanthSinghRajput”, as the caption. She tagged Prime Minister Narendra Modi, PMO India and Home Minister Amit Shah in the post as well. Take a look:

Meanwhile, Sushant’s ex-girlfriend Ankita Lokahnde comforted her, saying that they will get justice.

Ankita, on several occasions, has taken to social media and shown her solidarity. Earlier this month, she said that Sushant couldn’t have taken his own life while revealing her personal chats with the actor to Bihar police. The chats allegedly revealed that Sushant wanted to end things with Rhea as she was ‘harassing’ him.

Sushant Was Brutally Murdered: His Family In A 9-Page Letter

Just yesterday (on August 12), Sushant’s family released a 9-page strong letter on the probe into the actor’s death, alleging that he was brutally murdered. The letter came a few days after Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Raut questioned the relationship between the actor and his family.

Sanjay Raut, in an editorial in the party’s mouthpiece Saamna, claimed that the actor was not on good terms with his own family and had strained relations with his father after the latter’s second marriage. The letter, which is in Hindi, talked about the family’s journey from their native village to shifting to a city to provide a better life to the kids.

“The first daughter had magic, someone came and took her away to a foreign country. The second one played for the national cricket team while the third one did a study on the law. The fourth daughter did a diploma in fashion designing. The fifth one was Sushant, who was ‘mannat’ of his mother. Whole life the family did not take anything from anyone, neither harmed anyone”, the letter read. Further talking about what all is being said about Sushant, the letter also took a swipe at the relatives, claiming to be close to the late actor.

While the letter didn’t name anyone, it said that Sushant was “brutally murdered” and that “crooks trapped” him. The family said that they were not given enough time to mourn as there were attempts to brand their son as a “mental patient”, with photos of his dead body being exhibited everywhere.

Meanwhile, Neeraj Singh Babloo (Sushant’s cousin), who is a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, has demanded a public apology from Sanjay Raut within 48 hours, failing which he will take legal action against him.

Rhea & Sushant’s Europe Trip In Question!

While being interrogated by the ED, Rhea has revealed the details of her 2019 Europe trip with Sushant. This came after the latter’s former domestic help stated that the actor’s condition deteriorated after returning from the trip. Rhea said that it was the first time on their trip to Florence that she noticed some signs of mental illness in Sushant. They stayed in a 600-year-old heritage hotel with some old paintings on the wall. One such painting showed Saturn devouring his own child.

According to the actress, Sushant had been having hallucinations about the painting that he could not describe. She consoled him and they even cut their trip short as he wasn’t feeling well.

Later, in a lengthy blog post, Sushant’s therapist Susan Walker wrote that the late actor had bipolar disorder and that Rhea was his “strongest support”.

Sushant’s Ex-Manager Disha Being Dragged Into The Controversy

Disha Salian, who worked briefly with Sushant as his manager, died on June 8. She was also declared to have died by suicide but has been dragged into the controversy surrounding the actor’s death. Even after the family maintained that there’s no link between the two cases, the media is doing everything to establish a connection. As questions are raised on the probe, the Malvani police have decided to file a defamation suit against those who have been spreading meaningless rumours about the her on social media.

From several questions being raised to the social media trials and debates on nepotism, the real issue that needed to be discussed–awareness about mental health–was lost. It makes us sad to see that this tragedy has been reduced to mere gossip. We hope all of this ends soon.
