Just like everything else, ‘time’ works differently for men and women. Take me for example - I am a 23-year-old girl and an only child of my parents. Like most women, I have been raised with the expectation of eventually having a family of my own and serving them well. Whereas, if I had a brother, things would be completely different for him. I was denied a foreign education because it wasn’t ‘required’ but I'm sure he wouldn’t have been. He would probably have a choice to settle down whenever he preferred but I am time bound. Well, I don’t blame my parents for it so much. They too have grown up in a society which thinks that women are here to serve, let's call it, different purpose than most men. I love my parents for raising me with all the love and care but their attitude has more or less shaped my life like most women.
But then I pondered upon what is the best thing we, as women, could gift ourselves? I realized that it’s actually to give oneself as much importance as anyone else. Learning new skills, developing professionally and personally is probably the most empowering thing to do. And, that’s exactly what Konkona Sen is urging us all to do in this beautiful video for #FundYourOwnWorth - to invest in ourselves, because if we don’t, who will? So girls, watch this amazing video, take this leap of faith, take charge of your future and you’ll see the rewards yourself.
