When we talk about the people who turned the beauty world upside down, it's difficult not to mention the Kardashians. Kylie, of course, rose to fame thanks to her lip kits, and now is the owner of one of the biggest makeup and skincare brands in the world. Her sister, Kim, also has her own beauty line called KKW and they have some incredible base makeup products. She was also the person responsible for making contouring and highlighting a phenomenon that has changed the way most of us do our makeup. But she didn't do it alone. Right next to her, making her look fabulous day after day, was her makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic, and he deserves his share of the credit.
Now, Mario is launching his own makeup brand and we cannot keep calm.
The 36-year-old beauty pro has also worked with A-listers like Ariana Grande, Jennifer Lopez, and Demi Lovato. He announced the launch of Makeup By Mario on Monday--almost a year after he teamed up with Kim on the launch of a KKW Beauty palette collaboration.
The launch date has been set to October 1, 2020 which is not only his 37th birthday but also the day that he started his professional beauty journey on the Sephora sales floor, twenty years ago. Yeah, it's talent and sheer hard work that can transform a person's life.
Talking to PEOPLE, Dedivanovic said, "I decided I wanted to do makeup in my little 17-year-old mind. Sephora is where my dream began. It's where I would manifest and dream that I would do something significant and make my mother proud."
While he has worked with brands like KKW and Anastasia Beverly Hills, he was the face of the line and didn't have much say in the colours and formulations. But with his own brand, things will be different.
In an interview with Allure, he said, "I have such an involvement in every aspect of my brand. It's not just artistry; I'm not just the face of this brand. I am in this office every day, and I'm learning everything and I'm working with people from all different aspects of the business."
For his initial launch, the beauty guru wanted to focus on eye products like eyeshadow palettes, liners, primers, highlighters and brushes because he always begins his makeup routine with the eyes. Each palette is separated by texture--Master Matte, Master Metallic, and Master Metals which are all inspired by the colours of the human body.
"I'm using skin tone [shades] on everyone to shape the eye, so the formulation of the Master Mattes came from degrees of human skin tone. For Master Metallics, it's kind of nerdy, but if you look microscopically in the human body, there are billions of cells that are these colors. They're literally natural colors from within us", he said.
The Master Metals palette is for people who like the high shine, glitter bomb look. They can use the pigments with their fingers for a liquid metal look.
Mario has even released a clear, cream gloss highlighter called Master Secret Glow which can be used on the eyes, cheeks, and lips for a radiant glow from within. All of these products focus on the less is more approach where they can be built up if wanted but can also look sheer and natural when used with a light hand.
In an interview, he even admitted that because this brand has been three years into the making, he has tried on some of the products on his celebrity clients. He said, "I've used a lot of stuff over the past few years, but no one knows that I did because they were these little lab samples."
It's heartwarming that from working at a Sephora in 2000, Mario is now launching his own beauty brand-it's been quite a journey. As beauty enthusiasts, we cannot wait to have the products in our hands and give them a go!
