Kartik Aaryan, the actor who made his debut in Bollywood with Pyar Ka Punchnama in 2011 hasn't had an easy start to his career. Though he did make a mark as soon as his first film hit the theatres, getting there wasn't an easy journey for this outside. The actor, who hails from Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh, in a recent interview spoke about how he was rejected before he even gave his first audition.
"There was this deodorant ka ad, jiska audition maine diya tha. Mere ko bahar se hi reject kar diya tha!" Kartik recalled. The actor has on various occasions spoke about his struggle, both financially and mentally.
During an interview with actress Neha Dhupia at her chat show, Kartik mentioned that when he made his way from Gwalior to Mumbai, he was broke and was focused on making a career in Bollywood. "I didn't have a place to stay when I came to Mumbai. I stayed in a hostel. I have stayed with 12 guys in a flat. We were like a happy family. We used to pile up on each other," he said.
There were other struggling actors who he lived with, Kartik said, "We had our share of struggles. We used to go to auditions, wahaan pe 'not fit' ho jaata tha. I used to travel without tickets in local trains from Navi Mumbai to Mumbai when I was auditioning. I didn't even have that much money."
Recently, the actor shared a picture from the audition that landed him the role of Rajjoo in Pyar Ka Punchnama, captioned, "When the hair wasn’t up 👦🏻 The Photo that got me my Debut Film’s Audition ❤️ #MainePyarKiya look 😂 to #Pyaarkapunchnama."
Since he had no friends or family in the industry, Kartik found auditions and jobs via social media, trying out wherever he thought he fit the profile. "'I think social media has helped me out to become an actor. It was through Facebook and Google that I used to look out for auditions. Because I didn't know anyone so I used to search for it. I used to type keywords like actors required and casting calls on Facebook and Google and then go from Navi Mumbai to Mumbai to stay close with the industry," the actor said on Karan Johar's Koffee With Karan.
The actor also stated that he has a degree in engineering because his parents wanted him to be a padha-likha actor.
Kartik Aaryan now has over eight films to his name and is currently shooting for Imtiaz Ali's next tentatively called Love Aaj Kal 2, opposite his rumoured girlfriend, Sara Ali Khan. The actor is also shuffling schedules for Mudassar Aziz's remake of Pati, Patni Aur Woh with Bhumi Pednekar and Ananya Pandey.
