Can’t Relate To It: Kareena Reacts To Ex Shahid Kapoor’s Biggest Solo Hit, Kabir Singh

Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani-starrer Kabir Singh was a hot topic of discussion for months after its release. While many enjoyed the love story, the movie was also severely criticised for glorifying toxic masculinity. It was not just Shahid’s character of Kabir Singh which was questioned, but also Preeti (Kiara Advani’s character), who remained silent and submissive despite everything that she was subjected to.

Four months after the release of the movie, Kareena Kapoor Khan has now opened up about her views on it.

While speaking to a leading magazine, Kareena said that she doesn’t “personally believe in a character” like the one played by Kiara. “I haven’t seen the film. But clearly it hasn’t affected anything because the movie has made over Rs 300 crores. So, it’s a double-edged sword. Because there are people who are actually going to watch it and have found something that they love. Otherwise, it is not possible for it to have done so well. But I’m happy that people are talking about it and if you ask me, I don’t personally believe in a character like that because that’s not me as a person,” the Udta Punjab actress said.

“But, at the end of the day, it’s a film and it has worked. But I’m happy that people are talking about things and they want their voice to be heard. But they clearly are outnumbered by the people who have loved the film. That’s the reality, which is sad,” Kareena added.

Kabir Singh starred Kareena’s ex-boyfriend Shahid Kapoor. The actor played the role of an alcoholic and a heartbroken lover who goes on to abuse drugs and ends up ruining his career as a doctor. A remake of the Telugu Movie Arjun Reddy, Kabir Singh went on to become Shahid’s biggest solo hit. Kareena, on the other hand, has essayed several powerful roles throughout her career, especially in the last decade or so, in movies like Udta Punjab, Jab We Met, Omkara, which is probably why she says she can’t relate to Preeti’s character.
