I Was Dealing With Trauma: Kanika Kapoor Reveals She Sang Baby Doll With ‘A Vengeance’

The hit dance number Baby Doll is an iconic song and remains a shaadi and party favourite to this day. The song, which featured actress Sunny Leone, also made singer Kanika Kapoor a household Bollywood name. And now, the singer has revealed that she was dealing with a lot of trauma at the time when the song was produced. The 42-year-old said that her hit dance number actually brought out a feeling of ‘vengeance’ in her while adding that Baby Doll is her second most favourite song after Jugni Ji.

Speaking to a leading daily, Kanika said, “I was dealing with a lot of trauma and going through several ups and downs in my personal life when I was offered the song. When I understood the meaning of ‘Yeh duniya pittal di, Baby doll main sone di’, I sang it with a vengeance, which is quite sad. But I sang it with all my heart and people connected with it.”

We feel for Kanika, and completely agree with her–the masses definitely did connect with the song, and that is why it is still so popular.

The singer also opened up about the remix and remake trend in Bollywood and shared that she finds them ‘insane’ and ‘pathetic’. She further added that although even she is participating in this trend, she hopes that she doesn’t kill them ‘because it’s ridiculous’. “They’re picking up a beautiful Hemant Kumar song and killing it; it’s not the best idea,” said the singer.

We can’t help but agree with her!

Earlier in 2020, Kanika was the centre of a major controversy after she tested positive for COVID-19 and flouted the quarantine rules. She put a lot of lives in risk as she attended a few parties with several Indian politicians and VIPs at Hotel Taj, Lucknow after she returned from London.

For the uninitiated, Kanika did not have it easy before she became a big name in the music industry. Prior to her singing career, she was married to an NRI businessman Raj Chandok in 1998. The couple moved to London where they had three children. In 2012, Kanika divorced her husband and moved back to her parents home in Lucknow.

Kanika’s revelation about Baby Doll breaks our heart, but we’re also very proud of her for giving music her everything. She did prove that ye duniya pittal di but she’s 100% sone di. More power to you, girl!
