Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut and her sister Rangoli Chandel were summoned by a Mumbai court for a defamation case filed by actor Aditya Pancholi and his wife, Zarina Wahab. A summon is a legal document that commands the defendant to appear before the court on a specific day to answer the complaint made by the plaintiff. Back in 2017, Aditya and Zarina had lodged four defamation cases against Kangana and Rangoli after they went on multiple public platforms to make allegations against the actor and his wife.
The Kangana Ranaut–Aditya Pancholi controversy started when Kangana made a startling revelation that she was abused by Aditya Pancholi, back when they were dating and Kangana was fairly new in the industry. The actress also claimed to have approached Aditya’s wife Zarina, who refused to help her. She then sent an email application to the Versova police about an ‘assault and exploitation’ incident that happened 13 years ago.
Claiming that Kangana was threatening him with false accusations, Aditya had earlier said, “This is a conspiracy against me. I was surprised when the Versova cops reached out to me with a notice on April 25 this year at my residence.” However, the actor, in turn, filed a counter application, stating that Kangana’s lawyer threatened to file a rape case against him.
“Kangana and her sister Rangoli dragged my wife, son and daughter (into the matter) which was not good. I am concerned about myself and my family,” said Aditya, after filing the complaint against the Ranaut sisters.
According to the latest developments, the next court hearing will take place on July 26 this year. Chief Metropolitan Magistrate S B Dighe issued two summons each against Kangana and Rangoli with regard to the four cases filed by Pancholi and his wife. “There were four summons issued, one Aditya Pancholi Vs Kangana Ranaut, Aditya Pancholi Vs Rangoli Chandel and Zarina Wahab Vs Kangana Ranaut and Zarina Vahab VS Rangoli Chandel,” said Aditya’s lawyer Shreya Srivastava.
While the cases against Kangana are related to the statements she made during a TV show, those against her sister are related to comments made on social media, which defamed Aditya and his wife.
Aditya Pancholi claimed that Kangana, whom he reportedly dated in the past, had been maligning his image for years: “I can’t be called a woman-beater or an abuser or (accused of) the image that she has given me. I am not going to sit back and take all of this.” Aditya had also demanded an unconditional apology from both Kangana and Rangoli.
