Former Pepsi CEO Indra Nooyi Joins Amazon’s Board Of Directors

As a woman of Indian descent who served as the CEO of PepsiCo for 13 years, Indra Nooyi has consistently made our country proud.

After her exit from PepsiCo in 2018, many wondered about Nooyi’s next move. Today, Amazon.com, Inc. declared that Indra has been appointed on the company’s board as a director. She will be a part of the audit committee of Amazon’s board and has been granted 549 shares of common stock of the company.

In a move to make their board room more inclusive, Amazon had, last year, pledged to include women and minority candidates in their search for members.

The e-commerce giant’s eleven-member board now has five women including Nooyi, Brewer, Jamie Gorelick, Judith McGrath and Patricia Stonesifer.

At a recent event held by United Way in Miami, Nooyi had said that it is ‘bad for business and bad for society’ that women aren’t better represented at the highest ranks of corporations.

“We have to rethink how we support women in the workplace. Companies need to be better at eliminating unconscious bias and offering women the kind of support they need — from paid leave, to child care and flexibility — to meet ALL their responsibilities. And governments at all levels need to support policies that will help women succeed in the workplace and drive economic growth,” she said.

The Chennai-born business executive continues to make India proud, and we wish her luck for her new endeavor!
