#MadeInIndia: These Women Made It To The Top 20 Most Admired Women List!

YouGov, a UK-based market research company, holds annual surveys to determine the most admired people around the world. This year, the survey included 41 countries, and over 42,000 people were interviewed to compile the perfect list. The list includes 20 men and 20 women, who inspire people around the globe and are looked up to by citizens of countries like the US, UK, Germany, India, Australia, Austria, Brazil, Argentina, Belgium, Canada, China and Pakistan. With Bill Gates holding his rank securely as the world’s Most Admired man, Michelle Obama has taken a step up and has become the world’s Most Admired woman.

But what sets the list apart this year is the fact that four out of 20 of these women are Indian! On the World’s Most Admired list, we have:

  1. Bollywood actress, entrepreneur and mental health activist, Deepika Padukone ranking 13.
  2. Singer, actress, producer, entrepreneur, Miss World 2000 and global Unicef Goodwill Ambassador for Child Rights, Priyanka Chopra ranking 14, sliding down two spots from last year.
  3. Bollywood actress and Miss World 1994, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan at the 16th spot, going down 5 spots from the list last year.
  4. The new addition--actress and Miss Universe 1994, Sushmita Sen, at spot 17!

While we are incredibly proud of these Indian women who made it to the list, there are a few names that baffled us. The American President Donald Trump secured the position of the 2nd Most Admired Man in the world and Salman Khan joined the list at number 18. What? And for some odd reason, Melania Trump is on the list as well at 19.

*Sigh* There are some things that just can’t be explained.

On the list of India’s Most Admired men, Prime Minister Narendra Modi topped the ranks, followed by cricketer MS Dhoni and business tycoon, Ratan Tata. Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan awardee and Olympic boxer Mary Kom ranked first on the list of India’s Most Admired women, followed by the social activist, politician and current Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, Kiran Bedi and legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar.

It’s so refreshing to see names other than those of Bollywood celebrities heading these lists! Who do you think the list missed?
