How often should you sanitize your makeup?

If you use your makeup products every single day, then you should be sanitizing them every other week. Your makeup brushes, however, should be cleaned at least twice a week, while the outsides of your palettes and containers can be wiped down on alternate days.

If you've shared your makeup with friends or siblings or used certain products when you were sick, we recommend you clean them immediately to eliminate the spread of germs.

How to Sanitize Makeup Palettes?

Use the WIPEOUT Sanitizing Wipes to disinfect your makeup palettes. Pigment transfer or fallout especially with the eyeshadow palette is pretty common. Instead of just leaving it messy, take a WIPEOUT Sanitizing Wipe and clean the areas around the shades. Once you’re done, use the WIPEOUT Sanitizing Spray which contains 75% germ-fighting ethyl alcohol and lightly spray the surface of each shade. The goal here is to sanitize only the surface of the shadows and not drench the entire palette in sanitizing spray.

If you’ve let others use it, be sure to scrape a bit off the top and then use the sanitizing spray. Don’t worry! This won’t damage the product; it will just kill the germs and bacteria.

How To Sanitize Mascara?

If you’ve been using your mascara for more than three months, we suggest you replace it with a new one. The area around your eye is delicate and to avoid infections such as pink eye, you shouldn’t use mascara that’s well past its expiration date. Here’s how to sanitize your mascara wand: After using the product, rub the wand on the WIPEOUT Sanitizing Wipe and allow it to air dry for about a minute. Since the WIPEOUT Sanitizing Wipe is enriched with eucalyptus and lemon along with germ-fighting alcohol, it will get rid of germs and help control bacterial growth on the spoolie before it goes back in the mascara tube.

When it comes to disinfecting your lipsticks, we recommend spraying the top of your lipstick with WIPEOUT Sanitizing Spray and let it air dry. If you’ve broken the basic makeup rule by letting others use your lipstick, you can scrape off the top layer. This needs to be done carefully in order to not destroy the entire lipstick. You can also use the WIPEOUT Sanitizing Wipes to disinfect the outer cover.

The pads that cushion your lashes are riddled with germs, bacteria and a lot of dried mascara gunk. This build-up, if not removed, can damage your lashes and even cause eyelash loss. But you don’t need to toss it away, just clean the gunk off and disinfect it with the WIPEOUT products. You can first use the WIPEOUT Sanitizing Spray on the pads and then wipe them clean with WIPEOUT Sanitizing Wipes. Let your eyelash curler air dry for a full day before using it to avoid any eye irritation.

Unwashed makeup brushes and sponges are a breeding ground for bacteria and germs and using these brushes can lead to clogged pores and acne. Now, more than ever, you need to be extra careful as putting these bacteria-infected brushes near your face can be unsafe. Luckily, you don’t need to throw them out! To get good-as-new makeup brushes and beauty blenders all you need to do is follow these steps:

1) Wet the bristles with water.

2) Place a drop of your cleanser into the palm of your clean hand.

3) Gently massage the bristles in your palm. (You can use a drop of olive oil to get rid of any stubborn grime.)

4) Rinse the bristles thoroughly.

5) Once you squeeze out the water, use the WIPEOUT Sanitizing Spray on the bristles and let them dry by hanging them off the edge of a counter. Do not use a towel to dry them! This can damage the bristles.

So, there you have it! Two WIPEOUT by MyGlamm products that can disinfect your entire makeup bag within minutes.
