Maggi, Jugaad & Dodging The Warden: 9 Things You'll Relate To If You've Lived In A Hostel

Maggi, Jugaad & Dodging The Warden: 9 Things You'll Relate To If You've Lived In A Hostel

Your hostel is your home away from home, but just without the yummy mummy ke haath ka khana. Living at one is an experience of a lifetime and it teaches you some much-needed life lessons. Apart from having fun and living in a disordered mess, you learn to be independent, manage finances, and most importantly, you learn the art of jugaad. From making maggi with a bowl and hot water to heating food with a hairdryer, frugal solutions are your saviour.

And let's not forget the fact that you form friendships that last a lifetime. From failed relationships to failed cooking experiments, you share all your good and bad moments with your hostel friends. So, if you've survived the rollercoaster ride called hostel life, here are a few things that'll send you in a whirlwind of nostalgia.

1. Maggi Is True Love

We all love Maggi but not more than someone who has lived in a hostel. Maggi is the life of the party, the light of your life and your knight in shining armour. You can eat, drink and breathe Maggi if required because it is your staple diet. You have a nice stock of Maggi hidden in the tijori of your cupboard for emergencies.

2. Sharing Is Caring

Whether you like it or not, sharing is a part of your life. Nothing belongs to you anymore because your roommate has access and he or she will put it to use if and when required. You just can't not share when you live in a hostel.

3. Hostel Party

We've all heard of crazy house parties but hostel parties are a different world altogether. You haven't lived life if you haven't attended a hostel party. Sneaking past the warden with the bottles of alcohol and bribing the watchman to let you play music till late night and celebrating anything and everything in that one hostel mate's room!

4. Study Time? What's That?

via TENOR

Nope, not gonna happen. You cannot be left alone if you live in a hostel. If you think staying up all night is going to help you catch up on your studies, you're mistaken. The hostel is full of night owls and getting some work done is just about impossible no matter what time it is.

5. Ready In A FLASH

You have aced, and I mean ACED, the art of taking a shower, dressing up and getting to class...in all of 10 minutes. You can wake up at 7:50 am and still enter class at 8 am sharp without any hassle.

6. Dal Chawal Dhoka Hai

There's nothing more soul-soothing than some good old dal chawal but we all know that that dal made in the hostel mess is a dhoka! Dal kam, pani zayada, which makes it so unappetizing!

7. What On Earth Is Personal Space?

The idea of personal space and me time is foreign to you considering that you share everything including your washroom with someone else. It doesn't matter if you're not in a mood to chill or interact with someone because it's time to chill with other hostel mates at the adda. Crying in peace is just about impossible.

8. Watchman Bhaiyaaaaaaa

He's not just the watchman, he's your best friend and saviour. You've learnt to stay on good terms with the watchman bhaiya because you know you cannot sneak out without his help. And you don't just bribe in cash, you also bribe in kind. From biryani to beer, you've used anything and everything to bribe the watchman bhaiya.

9. Baap Of Jugaads!

via TENOR

You always have some jugaad to sort out every problem. From making a cake out of bread to conquering the world armed with an electric kettle, you can do just about anything.

While maa ke haath ka khana might have been missing from your hostel life, it was a great learning experience that made you who you are today! And you've got your hostel buddies who'll always have your back!
