Love knows no boundaries. However, in a country where religious choices are so deeply entrenched in the fabric of society, interfaith couples still have to cross numerous hurdles to fight for love.
Recently, we came across a father’s story on Humans Of Bombay where he expressed his views about his daughter’s choice of marrying a guy outside their faith. Reading his progressive perspective about religion and supporting his daughter’s choice irrespective of all circumstances gave us hope that true love does triumph.
This father had no second thoughts when his daughter confided in him about being in love with a Hindu guy: “I’m Muslim and I have 3 daughters. Recently my eldest daughter came up to me, and told me she was in love with, and wanted to marry a Hindu boy. I’ve always brought all my daughters up to be people who don’t judge others by their caste, or even class. Even when their choosing their life partners — I’ve told them to be with someone who loves and cares for them. Not someone who fits into the societies criteria of ‘ideal’.”
His acceptance of his daughter’s choice is just so sweet!
Happily waiting for his daughter’s wedding, this father belives that in a world which is filled with so much angst, love is the only thing that can redeem us: “So I believe I had no right to tell my daughter who she should love — and they’re getting married soon. I also believe that in a world where there are so many things going wrong, only love will save us.”
