Every month, Karan Johar answers more questions about nepotism and his fondness for launching his celebrity friends' kids in Bollywood than anything else. Those questions aren't exactly unfounded, as he's launched the careers of Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Ishaan Khatter, and Ananya Pandey, who debuted with Student of the Year 2 just three months ago. But it's not like Karan has never given a break to an outsider. Sidharth Malhotra, who debuted with Student of the Year, is perhaps the biggest example of the same.
Now there's a new kid on the Dharma block and he has no celebrity connections.
Karan has zeroed in on Lakshya Lalwani to be the parallel lead in Dostana 2. The film also features Kartik Aaryan and Janhvi Kapoor. Lakshya allegedly has a four-film contract with Dharma Productions, which includes a mix of Bollywood and digital projects.
Even though Lakshya has a background in TV, it wasn't easy for him to get this break. He went through a rigorous selection process, which included a series of photoshoots and auditions. Karan took to Twitter this morning to announce the news.
Both happy and excited to introduce the new kid on the Dharma block! LAKSHYA will be making his debut with us in #DOSTANA2 and from thereon, we hope to start a solid cinematic journey together! Please welcome #Lakshya and shower him with all your love and blessings... pic.twitter.com/zEgxX8a7V4— Karan Johar (@karanjohar) September 5, 2019
Immediately after he posted the tweet, negative comments about nepotism and Lakshya's 'connections' started coming in.
But Karan isn't one to take this lying down. He took a dig at the haters and tweeted again.
Yes I woke up to several inquiries asking about his film industry connections!!! He is NOT from the business and went through a legit audition process !! Am grateful to Shanoo Sharma for introducing LAKSHYA to @DharmaMovies https://t.co/47i6k0FSFe— Karan Johar (@karanjohar) September 5, 2019
We did some digging online because we're sure you guys want to know more about the actor. Here's what we found out!
Lakshya pursued his graduation in fine arts and photography from Delhi University and got his big break when he bagged the role of Parth in MTV India's Warrior High. In 2015, he was seen playing the role of Madhav in Adhuri Kahaani Hamari. In 2017, he was part of one of the most expensive Indian TV shows called Porus.
You see, he's no stranger to the world of acting. Now that you know almost everything about Lakshya, what are your thoughts on him? Do you think he'll become the next Sidharth Malhotra for Dharma?
