Looks like the makers of Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah may have found the replacement for their beloved character, Dayaben aka Disha Vakani. Disha has been on maternity leave since September 2017. She had requested a fee hike as well as a change in her working hours. Disha reportedly asked for Rs 1.5 lakh per episode, compared to her previous fee of Rs 1.25 lakh per episode.
Though she initially planned on rejoining the show after she gave birth to her daughter in November, the makers haven’t met her demands. Now, reports claim that Vibhuti Sharma, a fresh face may be replacing her.
While reports haven’t confirmed if Vibhuti has signed the contract yet, but if she is chosen, this will mark her first role as the lead of a show. The model and actress has previously done small stints in successful shows like Bade Acche Lagtey Hain and Humne Li Hai Shapat. Reportedly, she is being strongly considered for the role because of her physical similarities to Disha.
Earlier, when the maker of the show, Asit Modi was asked about Disha’s exit, he said, “Replacements and leap jumps are common in the television industry, they keep happening. It is nothing new and in the past whenever replacements have taken place, new actors have got accepted by the audience. On TV, an actor is known for its character and not by his name. Yes, we have started looking out for options because if in future Disha does not want to return we will have to replace her. But I would also like to add that Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah is a positive show so we will hope for a positive result.”
Let’s hope Vibhuti can do justice to this role, and nail the iconic laugh!
