Deepika Padukone Explains The No-Phones Policy At Her Wedding & It Wasn’t About Privacy

A few months ago, when I celebrated my quarantine birthday, my fam legit forgot to clap and sing when I blew the candles. Why? Because they were busy recording the moment on their phones! So, here’s what I have decided for the next year—everyone will keep their phones aside and focus on the birthday girl (aka yours truly). I’ll not have a fun Instagram story at the end of the day, but I will defs have some great memories. That’s the point, right? Well, Deepika Padukone totally agrees.

The actress was quick to realise that smartphones distract people from enjoying the moment in real life. Hence, at her wedding with Ranveer Singh, the couple asked the guests to not use their phones at all. In a recent interview with a leading daily, DP said, “Privacy was secondary. The reason we asked our guests not to have cell phones was because we wanted them to be present in the moment. Usually, everyone is on their cell phones, capturing the moment.”

Ranveer and Deepika tied the knot in November 2018 in an intimate ceremony at Lake Como, Italy. Their wedding pics were full of happy faces and NGL, we think a lot of credit goes to the fact that nobody was involved in their cellphones. The Piku actress added, “These moments should be in your mind and heart as they’re never going to come back. Every single guest, I kid you not, is so thankful. People who’ve never danced in their lives were on the dance floor. People who’ve never tasted alcohol were tasting wine. That’s how free people were.”

Gotta say, we wish we had an invite to #DeepVeer’s dreamy wedding as well! Nevertheless, as a future bride, I have defs taken some notes.
