How The Daughter Of An Electrician From Bhopal Became A National Shooting Champion

The name Chinki Yadav is one that you need to know. Daughter of an electrician from Bhopal, the 22-year-old is a pistol shooter on an unstoppable winning spree. Recently, Chinki has done everyone proud by winning a gold medal in the 25m pistol category in the national selection trials. She shot a score of 32 in the finals to win gold, while a score of 30 got Neeraj Kaur silver and that of 27 got Annu Raj Singh a bronze medal.

Not just that, Chinki also won the team silver medal in the 19th Surendra Singh Memorial Shooting Championship, the national shooting championship. She, along with teammate and fellow shooter from Madhya Pradesh, Mahima Agarwal, won this silver in the senior women 25m pistol category.

Chinki trains in Bhopal at a shooting academy run by the Sports Department. She started practicing in 2012 but only came into the limelight in 2017 after winning the team bronze in the Junior World Championship.

Her father, Mehtab Singh Yadav, who has been associated with the Sports Department for 23 years now, recalled, "As my home is inside the stadium, Chinki used to see others playing different games. She wanted to join a summer camp. I didn’t know that decision was the making of a star in my family." Indeed! "She was among few shooters selected after talent hunt for the shooting academy. She later took part in the national championship and won the medal," he added.

On this happy occasion, Mehtab didn't forget to give credit where its due. He said, "Shooting is such a costly game that it was not possible for me to bear the expenses of buying guns and ammunition from my pocket. My family owes a lot to the sports department."

Chinki is a day-boarder who spends most of her time practicing at the academy. Other than shooting, the 12th graduate loves to paint. The fact that her dedication and inspiring performance motivated Mehtab to enroll his younger son in the academy is just fantastic! Now, both the Yadav kids are in the shooting line and we can't wait to see them make headlines with their ace performances.
