Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you probably binge-watched the entire season of steamy show Bridgerton in a single sitting. We don’t blame you! The internet’s thirst for The Duke of Hastings aka actor Regé-Jean Page is real and we couldn’t be more elated when we heard a few months ago that we’ll be seeing more of Simon Basset in season 2!
But alas, some things are too good to be true, and it turns out that we will not be getting more scenes of Simon licking his spoon in slo-mo in season 2. Or any scenes of him at all. Before we go on, you might want to keep a box of tissues handy.
Dear Bridgerton fans, it's time to say goodbye to Duke of Hastings. While we've all been eagerly awaiting season 2 of this Regency-era drama, the makers just left us high and dry. Season 1 of the show answered all our questions including the one about Lady Whistledown's identity. We know that the Duke of Hastings managed to overcome his childhood trauma, but we also wanted to see him grow in the show. As much as we want to find out all about Anthony Bridgerton and his quest to find his 'perfect bride', we can't help but mourn the loss of this amazing character.
A letter from Lady Whistledown on Instagram confirmed that Regé-Jean Page will not be a part of Bridgerton season 2. "Dear Readers, while all eyes turn to Lord Anthony Bridgerton’s quest to find a Viscountess, we bid adieu to Regé-Jean Page, who so triumphantly played the Duke of Hastings. We’ll miss Simon’s presence onscreen, but he will always be a part of the Bridgerton family. Daphne will remain a devoted wife and sister, helping her brother navigate the upcoming social season and what it has to offer–more intrigue and romance than my readers may be able to bear," read the letter.
And if you thought Bridgerton fans and the Duchess of Hastings are the only ones mourning the loss, you couldn't be more wrong 'coz Kim Kardashian just joined the list of fans. The reality show star left a comment on the post, expressing her shock. Regé-Jean too left a comment on Lady Whistledown's letter. Take a look.
Regé-Jean also took to Instagram to bid adieu to the show with a picture of himself as Simon Basset from the set. Calling it a 'ride of a lifetime', the actor shared that it was beyond anything he could have imagined. "The ride of a lifetime. It’s been an absolute pleasure and a privilege to be your Duke. Joining this family - not just on-screen, but off-screen too. Our incredibly creative and generous cast, crew, outstanding fans - it’s all been beyond anything I could have imagined. The love is real and will just keep growing," read the caption.
But it seems like Regé-Jean has some interesting projects in his kitty. He will be seen in the upcoming Netflix spy adventure The Gray Man alongside Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans.
We’re going to take some time to mourn the exit of our beloved Duke, but oh well, at least we weren’t left with a cliffhanger! Psst...we're totally watching The Gray Man, but in the meantime, it’s time to re-watch Bridgerton for the 100th time.
