Something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue! This wedding season has been all about the brides of courage, about the women who dared to tread the unconventional route and give us avant-garde bridal avatars while somehow managing to stay true to the long fading idea of the classic bride.
Be it sarees borrowed from mom's wedding trousseau, unconventional colour combinations, or the perfect white Indian bride in a lace lehenga and veil, this year we have seen it all. And we certainly have more eccentric inspiration coming our way. Breaking the internet for all the right reasons, Sanjana Rishi is the bride of the moment.
Giving us some major Emily Ratajkowski flashback, Sanjana took over our feeds recently in her pantsuit bridal avatar complete with a bespoke veil and traditional jewels. Here's everything we are loving about this unconventional bride:
Sanjana opted for a powder-blue pantsuit for her wedding attire. Here's the catch though: it is a pre-owned outfit! Commenting on the look, the bride says, "I wanted to choose a wedding outfit that encapsulated my style but also stayed true to my commitment to supporting sustainability, local artisans, and ethical shopping." We absolutely loved the fact that this bride actually opted for a pre-owned outfit for her intimate wedding, thus giving us a valuable lesson in sustainability.
A Gianfranco Ferré creation, the pantsuit has been done in luxurious satin. The overlapping blazer has a matching waist belt layered on with a Swarovski belt to cinch the waist and match it nicely with the flared pants. Special mention for the peek-a-boo lace bustier that has been DIYed by the bride and adds symphony to the entire look by matching with her veil.
We also have eyes on the ivory accents of her veil dupatta or 'veilpatta' as the bride calls it, custom made for the bride by Torani Official. But wait till you see how versatile it actually gets. Sanjana has also shared pictures of herself in the same bustier where she has styled her veil as a dupatta and has replaced her pantsuit with a flared palazzo for an Indian look. Does it get any more sustainable?
Also, we are totally tempted to pair a pantsuit with juttis after seeing Sanjana acing it with utmost flair!
If you happen to associate with unconventional aesthetics even a little bit, Sanjana's jewels are totally going to be your jam especially that choker style mangalsutra. Minimal yet statement, the mangalsutra comes with a dull gold pendant and a single strand of beads that lie close to the neck in a custom fit. Sanjana has boldly opted for a layered look to further accentuate the mangalsutra by pairing it with tennis necklaces done in various finishes of uncut diamonds.
While you wouldn't be able to envision a maang teeka with a pantsuit outfit, the Anu Merton Jha jewel somehow does the task of bringing the entire look together acting as a balancing point between the hand-embroidered veil and Sanjana's suit. Oh also, the bride found her "something borrowed" in the textured hoops that actually belong to her best friend's mom.
For her makeup look, MUA Jasmeet Kapany has pulled off an effortless day time glam look with the dewy finish. Love how they have just worked on the skin for a healthy blush while keeping the eyes subdued and the lips nude. Subtle yet effective! The minimal chignon nicely brings it out together.
Here's what you'll need to recreate this look:
Ever seen a bride chilling at her own wedding in a casual plunge top, skirt, and flip flops? That's Sanjana for you! Posing in front of their wedding hashtag i.e. #Maharishi, both the bride and groom (Dhruv Mahajan) look like they are on a carefree getaway. Well, we are totally shipping this wedding vibe!
P.S. we found you an outfit option just in case Sanjana got your super inspired:
