7 Times Bollywood’s Red Carpet Looks At Cannes Left An Unforgettable Impression On Us

For a fashionista, the month of May doesn’t begin with ‘May the fourth be with you’ jokes. It begins with the talks of Festival de Cannes, the sound of heels as they descend the stairs of Palais des Festivals, and the sight of gorgeous gowns floating on the prestigious red carpet. Held every year from May 12 to May 21 at French Riviera’s most famous beach resort of Cannes in France, the film festival is an annual event where we get our fill of films and fashion. Well, not in 2020!

In light of the coronavirus outbreak, Cannes Film Festival (which was earlier looking at a delayed date in late June or early July), has officially joined the list of “postponed” events in 2020 along with IPL, The Met Ball, Coachella, and the likes. This was made clear on Monday when the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, extended the national lockdown until mid-July. We weren’t even over the news of our own lockdown extension till May 3 and now this?

“Following the French president’s statement … we acknowledged that the postponement of the 73rd International Cannes Film Festival, initially considered for the end of June to the beginning of July, is no longer an option,” festival organisers said in a statement. Furthermore, the statement said, “It is clearly difficult to assume that the Festival de Cannes could be held this year in its original form.”

However, yesterday, the organisers announced that they’re still exploring some options to carry the festival “in a way or another”. The statement said, “Since yesterday evening we have started many discussions with professionals, in France and abroad. They agree that the Festival de Cannes, an essential pillar for the film industry, must explore all contingencies allowing to support the year of Cinema by making Cannes 2020 real, in a way or another.” Well, that has our name written all over it! Although, in what fashion will we get the Cannes experience is unclear.

Bollywood At Cannes Film Festival

We may not know what 2020 has got in store for us or how the Festival de Cannes will greet us this year, but we sure know that some looks from the festival are forever etched in our hearts, courtesy our beloved Bollywood celebrities. So, without much ado, let us take a step or two back and remember some iconic red carpet looks sported by Indian celebs at Cannes.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s Cinderella Moment

I cannot not open a Cannes article without an Aishwarya Rai look. The actress has been attending the event for the longest time now and has sported many looks that are imprinted on our minds like ABC. But for me, the most favourite is from 2017 when she stepped out in this Cinderella gown, literally. By Michael Cinco Dubai, this dreamy blue gown is all I’ve ever wanted from a celebrity. Yup, this has got to be the first pick!

Deepika Padukone’s Naked Gown

Instagram

When does Deepika Padukone not slay a look? Cannes will definitely not be the answer here. In 2018, DP sported a naked dress by Zuhair Murad at the red carpet and we still haven’t gotten over it. Only she can look like a Goddess in a naked dress.

Speaking of the naked dress trend, of course, Deepika’s aubergine sheer gown by Marchesa needs no introduction. Ah, 2017. Those were the days when DP made goth look Godly.

Huma Qureshi is the quintessential Indian beauty and her Cannes red carpet outfits are enough to prove that. Thrown in there was this platinum chip overload bespoke suit by Nikhil Thampi. Totally bionic and futuristic, this is what I call a custom-made power suit for a worthy wearer.
