Live From The Couch: The Best Beauty Routines & Makeup Looks At The 2020 ‘Virtual’ Emmys

Clearly, nothing can stop the annual award shows from happening — not even a pandemic. After the quarantined edition of the 2020 VMAs brought some sort of normalcy back into our lives, last night, we were graced by Hollywood’s most elite as they showed off their luxurious ball gowns and chic makeup looks at the 72nd Emmy Awards 2020, sans the red carpet. This year, while the ceremony happened at the Staples Centre, due to COVID-19, winners, on the other hand, gave their acceptance speech virtually from their homes via Zoom *it wouldn’t be 2020 if Zoom wasn’t part of it*. And even though celebs had to just sit in front of their computer screens, it didn’t stop them from dressing to the nines.

While we’re ecstatic that ‘Schitt’s Creek’ set a record for the most wins for a comedy series *we totally get that*,  we’re also in awe with this year’s best virtual beauty looks and the procedures that went into achieving them. So, without further ado, here are all the highlights at the 2020 Emmys — from how your favourite celeb prepped for the show to our pick of the best beauty looks that were stylish, chic and let’s not forget — Zoom-worthy a.k.a video call friendly.

The 72nd Annual Emmy Awards—Zoom Edition

Adhering to the pandemic rules, this year’s Emmys did not consist of red carpets and celebs crowded in one room. In fact, the Staples Centre consisted of just one man – host Jimmy Kimmel, while the rest of the stars attended from the comfort of their own homes with their ‘come as you are but make an effort’ dress code. When it came time to receiving their awards, the Emmy itself was delivered to the winner at their respected location.

The Pre-Show Rituals

From Jennifer Aniston’s sheet mask and champagne to Yara Shahidi keeping it real while dealing with her stash problem, here’s how your favourite celebs prepped for the award show.

Jennifer Aniston

Our favourite F.R.I.E.N.D.S star, Jennifer Aniston proved that she’s just like us commoners even while prepping for the Emmys 2020 show. The actress took to Insta to show off her beauty routine and we’ve got to say, the PJs, a glass of champagne, a moisturizing sheet mask and messy bun is the epitome of what everyone’s self-care Sunday should look like!

Next Sunday, grab your K.Play Flavoured Sheet Mask and a bottle of wine and pamper yourself like a star — you deserve it!

The Marvelous Mrs Maisel’s star Rachel Brosnahan had some extra help for her prep routine before the 2020 Emmys. The actress opted for a spa session — with her face mask on, just a couple of hours before the live telecast.

Yara Shahidi

Grown-ish star Yara Shahidi proves that there is nothing wrong in showing off your moustache bleaching session. The star kept it real as she uploaded a video of herself, bleaching the stash with the help of her at-home kit. We won’t be surprised if this will be the next trending topic amongst beauty influencers.

Best Beauty Looks At The 2020 Emmys

Even though it was a virtual event and ball gowns were optional, celebs didn’t abandon beauty altogether. We’ve rounded up the best hair and makeup looks from the 2020 Emmy awards which are easily do-able at home.

Regina King

Seems like the actress was embracing Pantone’s colour of the year with her all-blue gown and matching blue eyeliner. If you’re looking for makeup inspo for your next Zoom meeting, then look no further. The actress’s flawless base along with a subtle highlight and eyeshadow, blue liner across her upper lash line and nude lipstick is the perfect simple yet chic virtual makeup look you’re looking for.

Reese Witherspoon

Reese Witherspoon kept it simple and classy with her signature bright red lip, soft, glossy hair waves, mascara and a hint of pink blush. If you love trying out old Hollywood glam looks, then this beauty look should be on your to-do list.

Tracee Ellis Ross

Tracy Ellis Ross proves that a bright lipstick can look stunning, in person and on camera. The actress stole the show with her glamorous gold gown along with her bright purple lipstick. Since there was already so much going on with her look, she opted to keep the rest of her makeup to the bare minimum.

Zendaya

Zendaya made history for 2 reasons last night — she’s now officially the youngest person to ever win an Emmy and only the second black female to win the award. For her virtual acceptance look, the actress stunned with her loose updo and messy curtain bangs, on-point highlighter, kohl-rimmed eyes and glossy nude lipstick. We’re sure if there was an award for best beauty look, she would win that too.

Yara Shahidi

The actress proved that you don’t need an entire beauty team to look gorgeous — just your trusty stash bleaching kit. Yara’s makeup was all about that glow with her strategically placed highlighter. Along with her lit-from-within-glow, she completed her makeup look with glossy nude lips, a subtle cat eye and mascara coated lashes.

Yvonne Orji

The actress not only looked gorgeous with her wine coloured lips and long voluminous eyelashes but she also made a big statement with her hair. The actress and comedian made a big beauty statement by sporting a #BlackLivesMatter symbol on the side of her hair.

If we’ve learnt one thing from this year’s Emmys, it is that you don’t need to leave the house to pamper yourself and look glam. In 2020, going all out for your video call is totally acceptable. So, go on and treat your entire life like it’s the Emmys and remember, if celebs can go all out on Zoom, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t!
