Do you make a travel checklist before boarding a flight? Well, I certainly do. Call it forgetfulness or my subconscious nerves, I have done the most embarrassing travel mistake of my life--dropping my boarding pass in the airport washroom. And what happened thereafter turned out to be a big hassle. Contacting the airline staff, getting a new boarding pass wasn't easy at all, I almost missed my flight. In order to avoid making this mistake, I make a checklist of a few important things like carrying a valid ID, passport and of course, a boarding pass. Well, if you are not in the least bit surprised and can relate to this forgetfulness, this news is just for you!
Kempegowda International Airport has made paperless flying a reality. You no longer need a boarding pass if you are taking a flight from Bengaluru’s airport. The airport has installed a fully biometric-based self-boarding solution, a seamless facility that enables you to breeze through from your entry to the terminal security screening to the boarding gate. This biometric technology will identify passengers by their face as they move across the airport, avoiding stops and the repeated presentation of boarding passes, passports or other physical identity documents. All you need to do is just smile and board the flight! Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL) has tied up with Vistara airline for this project.
Well, we have to say, this move sure shows us how the face of travel is going to change in the future.
The step that has been taken under BIAL’s Digi Yatra project, which, once completed, will be the largest deployment of an end-to-end paperless biometric programme in Asia with over 350 passenger touchpoints at BLR Airport Terminal 1. The process, Early Go Live, ensures adapting to the highest international standards of data security and passenger privacy.
“Once we try the full end-to-end process successfully and integrate into the Digi Yatra platform, the technology and process will be used extensively for a smooth flow in our upcoming terminal 2 project as well,” Hari Marar, MD and CEO of BIAL stated in a press release issued by the authorities.
The first group to avail the facility were the passengers boarding Vistara flight UK864 from Bengaluru to Mumbai. The process is expected to be integrated with check-in/self-bag-drop to include other domestic and international airlines at BLR Airport over the next few months.
Well, no more digging around your bag for the boarding pass anymore!
