Should She Have Allowed A Depressed Man To Consume Drugs? Ankita Lokhande On SSR Case

A few weeks ago, Sushant Singh Rajput’s former girlfriend, who had not been in touch with him, since 2016, told the media that ‘he could not have been depressed‘. In an interview with a media portal, the actress had said, “Sushant was not the guy who could commit suicide. We have seen worse situations when we were together. He was a happy-go-lucky guy. How much ever I know him, he wasn’t a depressed guy”.

Ever since actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s alleged suicide has been under investigation, Ankita has extended support for his family. When the late actor’s girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty said he felt claustrophobic on planes, Ankita posted an old video of him in a flight simulator with the caption “Is this #claustrophobia ?”

On the day of Rhea’s arrest by the Narcotics Control Bureau for alleged procurement and consumption of marijuana, she posted a quote on Instagram that read, “Nothing happens by chance, by fate. You create your own fate by your actions. That’s karma.” Today, she released a note on social media, explaining that what is happening to Rhea is ‘karma’.

She started by explaining that she ‘never said it’s a murder or anyone in particular is responsible.’ She wrote, ” I always have encouraged justice for my late friend SSR and stood by the bereaved family and truth should be brought out by the investigating agencies.”

Then, speaking about Rhea, she said that she wished she ‘would have woken up sooner and advised (her) not to support any kind of drug abuse by SSR if any.’

“When she very well knew about his mental state by publicly stating that he was in depression. Should she have allowed a depressed man to consume drugs? His condition would deteriorate to a level that would make a man take the action that SSR has allegedly taken. She was the closest person to him at that time,” Ankita wrote.

“On one hand, she says she was coordinating with all the doctors for his betterment of health on request of SSR, and on the other hand, she was coordinating drug logistics for him. Would anyone, who claims to have loved someone so deeply, allow the other person to consume drugs claiming to know his mental state and condition?” she added.

Then, she went on to say that Rhea did not inform Sushant’s family about it because he herself ‘enjoyed consuming it’. “As per her, she informed his family about his ongoing treatment but did she ever inform them about his drug consumption? I am sure she didn’t because maybe she, herself, enjoyed consuming it. And this is why I feel it’s Karma/Fate,” she wrote.

She ended her note by saying ‘let us maintain civility by not coming on to each other personally, either directly or indirectly.’

While Rhea’s involvement in Sushant’s death is still under investigation, it is grossly misogynistic to blame a woman for a grown man’s drug use. Can we for one second assume that a 34-year-old man was capable of making his own decisions?

Rhea has been sent to 14-day judicial custody after being arrested. Her bail plea was rejected on Tuesday, and her team will now be moving to the sessions court to seek bail.

Let’s hope that justice prevails and we trust the judiciary to do its job.
