Give Your Skin Some TLC To Go Au Naturale Like Alia This Season!

Putting on a full face of make-up during the summer is a pain. There, I said it. Leaving the house with a BB cream on your face feels like so much work, so putting on layers of make-up just adds to that discomfort. But it isn’t just us mortals who feel this way. The ultimate queen of cool, Alia Bhatt, also isn’t a stranger to these summer woes.

Scrolling through her Insta-feed as she is beginning promotions for Raazi, there is one common thread in all the looks. She is absolutely embracing the au naturale looks for all her appearances! There are her supremely well-defined brows, her charming smile, and she hasn’t even put on falsies! We all know the no make-up look is in, there are a list of products that are used to achieve that look to perfection. What makes Alia’s look stand out, is that she is ACTUALLY going natural and minimal. Which brings me to highlight the most important point, if your canvas isn’t clear natural won’t look this good.

So I thought, usually, I break down make-up looks and tell you how to create them but today let’s break down a simple 5 step skincare routine that would make it super easy for you to rock the natural look this sultry season.

Step 1: Cleanse! I don’t just mean wash your face but actually, follow a two-step cleansing routine and follow it diligently, twice a day. Either use a combination of your favourite micellar water and a foam cleanser OR use make-up wipes and a mild cleanser.

Our picks: Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micellar Water, Rs 528; Avon Clearskin Blemish Clearing Foaming Cleanser, Rs 239

Step 2: A toner is very important for the way your skin feels after you cleanse. I could use terms like it restores the pH balance, but the basic idea behind using a toner is to seal in the effect of the cleansing that you gave your skin without damaging it.

Our picks: Indulgeo Essentials Rose Geranium Witch Hazel Facial Mist/Toner, Rs 300

Step 3: Essence or serum. An essence is just a concentrated concoction of skincare ingredient that targets your biggest skincare woe. Adding this step to your beauty routine ensures your skin gets the nutrients early on and absorbs them.

Our picks: Innisfree Jeju Pomegranate Revitalizing Essence, Rs 2000; Juicy Chemistry Helichrysum & Rosehip Serum (Cell Construction Serum), Rs 468

Step 4: Hydration is key! While the serum and essence do give your skin the nutrients, you still need to moisturise your skin, regardless of the type of your skin.

Our picks: Just Herbs Silkskin Indian Ginseng-Aloevera Moisturising Cream, Rs 625; Ponds Age Miracle Wrinkle Corrector Day Cream SPF 18 PA++, Rs 487

Step 5: SPF is not a joke. Let me put this in bold. SUNSCREEN IS IMPORTANT EVEN IF YOU SPEND YOUR WHOLE DAY INDOORS. Let your moisturiser soak into your skin properly before you put the sunscreen on and ideally let that soak in well before you leave the house.

Our picks: Neutrogena UltraSheer Dry Touch Sunblock SPF 50+, Rs 467

After following this skincare routine well, when you have to step out and you think you need a little something extra, you could just add a bright lip, define your brows and add some mascara, just like Alia!
