Stars For A Cause: Big B, PC, Alia Unite For Short Film On Importance Of Social Distancing

It is Day 14 of the 21-day lockdown in India and the number of coronavirus cases is spiking at an alarming rate every day. Ever since Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the lockdown, many celebrities across the nation have been doing their part by trying to create awareness about social distancing during these tough times.

Now, Bollywood A-listers and celebrities from regional cinema have joined hands and came together for a short film called Family. The film talks about the importance of staying home during the coronavirus outbreak, and stars Bollywood biggies like Amitabh Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Priyanka Chopra and Diljit Singh. Other regional artists including megastars Rajinikanth and Chiranjeevi, Malayalam actors Mohanlal and Mammootty, Marathi actress Sonalee Kulkarni, Prosenjit Chatterjee from Bengali cinema, and Kannada actor Shiva Rajkumar also appear in the film.

The plot revolves around Big B’s ‘kaala chashma’ and everyone’s effort to find it. It begins with him looking for his sunglasses, and then everyone, from Diljit to Chiranjeevi to Alia, gather to help him. Eventually, Priyanka finds them and hands them over to him.

She then asks Big B why he needs the sunglasses in the first place--and he tells her that he doesn’t need them, as he is not going out of his house for a few days. “I needed these sunglasses because I do not need them...If they lie around, they will get lost. If they get lost, you all will have to search for them. Now, why should I trouble you all?”, he says.

Conceptualized and directed by Prasoon Pandey, this visual extravaganza tells us that staying at home is crucial during these unprecedented times. At the end of the video, Big B reveals that the entire film was shot at home and no actor stepped out of the house to shoot their part. The actors had collaborated to raise funds for workers and daily wage earners.

Amitabh Bachchan took to Twitter to post the video and ICYMI, you can watch it here:
