If the exuberant weddings of the Ambani siblings have left you gasping (and also a little jealous. Okay fine, very jealous) here’s some not so surprising news–last week, Forbes released its list of the world’s billionaires, and of course, Mukesh Ambani featured on it. Mukesh was ranked the 13th richest man in the world, making him the richest man not just in India, but all of Asia.
Forbes estimated his net worth to be around US$60 billion, and I did the maths (I actually did!)…When converted to INR the sum is Rs 41,95,59,00,00,000. Yep, you read that right.
There is another reason the Ambani parivaar has been in the news quite often. Not for their newest business venture (although there’s always a new one around the block), but for their back-to-back shaadis. Let’s take a peep into the lifestyle of this ‘crazy rich Asian’ family, but proceed with caution, you might feel like drowning your sorrows in Masala Cola by the time you are done with this article.
They Live In A Modern-Day Castle
First and foremost, we need to address the elephant in the room, or should we say all of Mumbai? The Ambani abode is anything but humble–it’s valued over a whopping US$2 billion alone, and was said to be the most expensive residence in the world at the time of being built. The building has — wait for it — 27 floors and comprises six floors of parking, a 50-seater cinema, outdoor gardens, a swimming pool with a spa and a gym, guest apartments, a maintenance floor and three helipads. And here I am debating whether I *really* need to replace my 8-year-old mattress.
They Own An Absurd Amount Of Expensive Cars
While most of us slog it out in the metro to and from work, the Ambanis like to commute in style. Mukesh Ambani owns a Maybach 62, an ultra-luxurious car with customised interiors and a privacy screen, built-in TV screens with conferencing facilities. It is bullet and bomb proof and costs just a ~casual~ US$1 million. Of course, the Maybach 62 isn’t the only car he owns–his ‘modest collection’ includes cars like the Bentley, Rolls Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe, Armoured BMW, Mercedes-Maybach Benz S660 Guard, Aston Martin Rapide, Rolls Royce Phantom, Bentley Continental Flying Spur. Phew. That list just made my heart hurt, and I don’t even know what half of these cars look like.
Mukesh Gifted His Wife A Private Jet
While I can’t get a guy to text me back, Mukesh went all out on his Nita’s 44th birthday by gifting her a private jet! The ultra-luxurious A-319 jet is basically a five-star hotel suite in the air and features a bedroom, jacuzzi, sky bar, lounge, a large bedroom and living room. Oh, and did I mention it costs Rs 240 crores? I wonder if the Ambanis are open to adopting a self-deprecating 27-year-old?
Beyonce, Coldplay, The Chainsmokers, Maroon 5…
And the list goes on. Mukesh and Nita Ambani’s twins, Isha and Akash recently got hitched and of course, daddy dearest did not hold back. Mukesh went all out and convinced Queen Bey to perform at Isha’s sangeet! And that’s not all–for Akash’s wedding, they managed to get Coldplay‘s Chris Martin and The Chainsmokers to perform at a pre-wedding bash, and Maroon 5 at a post-wedding bash. I wonder how they’ll match up to this during the youngest Ambani aka Anant’s wedding? In other news, I’ve been pulling my hair out trying to get in touch with Kamaal Rashid Khan’s people for an event…No luck so far.
Nita’s famous Diamond Gajra
When you’re the wife of the richest man in Asia and your only daughter is getting hitched, ordinary gajra flowers *just* don’t cut it for you. So, Nita did what any self-respecting wife of a billionaire would do…she replaced flowers with diamonds! That’s one way of not wanting to be ‘wasteful’ of flowers, I guess?
Their Guest List Included The Crème De La Crème Of The World
This shouldn’t come as a surprise, but the Ambani clan know anybody who’s a somebody. While we saw Hillary Clinton and John Kerry dancing away at Isha’s sangeet, Akash’s wedding saw the attendance of former Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki Moon, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Former Prime Minister of The United Kingdom Tony Blair and his wife Cherie, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings, Samsung vice-chairman Jay Y. Lee…and the list goes on!
They Have The Khans, The Bachchans & The Kapoors on Speed Dial
Salman Freaking Khan was a back-up dancer at Isha’s wedding while Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan served food to their guests. Akash’s wedding, obviously, wasn’t much different.
