There were multiple ways to ring in the new year, but only until a year ago. There were fancy parties that we would have attended or short trips that we could have planned, but all of that changed once the pandemic struck. Now, the best and the safest way to welcome 2021 is by celebrating it at home with our family and loved ones.
Okay, before you go all sad face on us, can we just put across the fact that this new cosy way of celebrating the new year might just be the perfect start to 2021? Think about it, you can enjoy new year's eve with your bae in such an oh-so-exclusive manner without any interference of friends and family (which honestly can get overwhelming at times)! Moreover, Einstein's theory of special relativity says that time slows down or speeds up when you are with your loved ones and no amount of time with them is ever enough.
Alright, he never said that but hey, you get what we’re saying, right?
So now that it's decided that you are celebrating NYE with bae, how will you make it fun and cosy? That is simple, by watching these romantic movies while snuggling in a blanket with wine by your side! Sounds perfect? Then read the list to know more:
Let’s start with a classic, shall we? Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan are one of the best on-screen couples ever and Sleepless in Seattle is one of the most romantic movies of all time. The movie re-establishes the fact that no matter what, if love is meant to be, it will be while defying all odds. If that sounds a little like your own love story, then you already know which movie to start NYE with.
Sandra Bullock looks so convincing in the role of a badass boss while Ryan Reynolds dazzles us as Bullock’s charming assistant. They both fake a marriage after Sandra realises that it’s the only way to save her job. But, obviously, the pretence turns into reality and you can fall in love with them while they fall in love with each other.
As the last movie of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput, Dil Bechara is truly special for all the right reasons. It is the Indian adaptation of The Fault In Our Stars and follows the journey of Manny (SSR) and Kizie (Sanjana Singhi). The teenagers are battling terminal illness but find love at the most unexpected time in the most unexpected way. The movie teaches us to be positive and hopeful in the most adverse situations, and please don’t forget to keep your tissues by your side.

The movie had mixed reviews but there’s no denying that it is a good option for a mindless binge-watch on NYE. Moreover, Sara Ali Khan and Kartik Aryan really look cute together. Their love story is more of a reflection of the fast-paced relationships that we witness in today’s world. You can watch it once and forget all about it later.
365 Days is definitely not for the light-hearted! But, if 50 Shades of Grey is your thing, then this hot steamy romance will totally spice up your NY eve. An Italian mafia kidnaps his lady-love and gives her 365 days to love him back while promising no force (err...apart from the fact he has forcefully abducted her?). The premise is definitely problematic AF, but you'll love hate-watching this one.
Rebecca is based on the classic novel of the same name authored by Daphne du Maurier. The movie is a psychological thriller and will give and your partner all the thrill you need on the new year’s eve. A naive young woman, Mrs. de Winter, begins a new life with her rich husband, Maxim de Winter, at his beautiful mansion. However, the mansion is haunted by Winter’s former dead wife, Rebecca--or is it?
BTW, you can totally skip that wine we suggested and switch to tea because you know… it goes well with all the vintage feels this movie will give you.
Yami Gautam and Vikrant Massey make an adorable on-screen couple and you will agree with us too when you watch Ginny Weds Sunny. Vikrant aka Sunny is totally frustrated after getting rejected multiple times by women (including Yami aka Ginny) for marriage. However, he finally finds hope in the face of Ginny’s mother who helps him in winning her daughter’s heart. Cute, fun, and a light-hearted romance that’ll definitely bring a smile on your face.
What is it with people and young-adult romance that totally get them charged up? Well, it might just be the fact that this emerging genre is full of passion and extremely hot and happening. After We Collided is one such movie that falls somewhere between Twilight and 50 Shades. If both of these movies are your thing or remind you of your good ol’ teen days, then give it a try. The film is a sequel to After (2019) that follows the passionate love story of Tessa and Hardin post their break-up.
Edward: “So what happens after he climbs up and rescues her?”
Vivian: “She rescues him right back."
OMG if this dialogue gave you an instant rush of nostalgia (and even if it didn’t) then you must watch and re-watch this classic romantic movie that’s never going to get old. Julia Roberts aka Vivian and Richard Gere aka Edward meet under the most unexpected circumstances and make one of the most unconventional deals. By the end of their deal, the two hopeless romantics in their own ways find love and solace within each other. A perfect movie on the NY eve to remind you and your partner that fairy tales do exist after all!
You may say that we saved the last spot for a personal favourite, and we’d say that you guys are damn right! Silver Lining Playbook is about Patrizio (Bradley Cooper) and Tiffany (Jennifer Lawrence) and their twisted love story. Welcome the new year by reminding yourself once again that emotions can be messy, taking care of your mental health is no joke, and love is a beautiful paradox of everything that is easy and tough.
Happy new year folks! We hope these movies make your NYE even more romantic.
