The nation is rooting for Ranbir Kapoor's stupefying performance in Sanju and Rajkumar Hirani's impeccable art of storytelling. The film broke all records with its unmatchable box-office collection on the first weekend itself.
While we all loved the movie, it didn't cover some of the other important parts in Sanjay Dutt's life. Well, it's difficult to squeeze a lifetime into two hours, especially when there's so much ground to cover. So, let us take you through all the other pivotal moments in Sanju Baba's life that weren't talked about in the film, Sanju.
Sanju neither talked about Dutt's first wife Richa Sharma with whom he has a daughter Trishala nor his second wife Rhea Pillai. Also, the film didn't reveal anything about his love story with Maanayata.
Sanju didn't throw any light on Sanjay Dutt's political career (no matter how short-lived it was). Dutt joined Samajwadi Party in 2009 with Amar Singh as his mentor. He was given a ticket to run the elections from Lucknow constituency but his conviction became a barrier. It's important to note that his family has always been pro-Congress, so his decision came as a shock to many.
Kumar Gaurav is Sanjay Dutt's brother-in law. He married Baba's sister Namrata Dutt. Kumar Gaurav was Sanju's biggest support and a great friend. He stood by the actor during his struggling days. The film, however, doesn't mention him at all.
A lot has been said about Sanjay Dutt's affair with Tina Munim (now Tina Ambani). Apparently, Sanju Baba beat up some men for lecherously staring at his then girlfriend. None of such episodes found their place in the film.
Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit were the 'it' couple back in the day. Allegedly, Madhuri was the reason behind the rift between Sanju and his first wife. Even though the two were very serious for each other, Sanju's involvement in the Mumbai blasts drew Madhuri away from him. In the movie, Sonam Kapoor is shown as his girlfriend who marries an NRI doctor, but the connection is as flimsy as that.
Sanjay Gupta anchored Dutt's sailing boat by signing him for Aatish, Kaante, Musafir and Zinda. The director also helped revamp Sanjay's image to that of a stylish star, post his involvement in the Mumbai blasts. The film completely missed out on his existence in Dutt's life.
After Richa Sharma, Sanju's first wife, passed away, Dutt's bond with daughter Trishala suffered to a large extent. Over the years, the two have repaired their relationship. The film however doesn't talk about her existence at all.
Politician Bal Thackeray came as a saviour to Sanjay Dutt back then. He was instrumental in Dutt getting a bail after he was arrested for the first time in 1993. The film doesn't mention Thackeray.
Priya Dutt and Namrata Dutt played vital roles in brother Sanju's life. From helping him overcome his drug addiction to helping him cope after father Sunil Dutt's demise, they were his two pillars of strength. All of them have openly admitted how much they care for each other. Things did get ugly for a while when Sanjay joined another party and married Maanayata without his sisters' consent, but it's all water under the bridge now. The film doesn't mention any of this.
Before we got our immensely loved Munna Bhai, Sanjay Dutt didn't have the most successful career. The era of many flops that put him into major depression is not included in Sanju.
