Anushka Sharma is not just a terrific actress but also a conscientious citizen. She’s one of the few names in the industry who is an active supporter of taking every step to save the planet rather than just talking about it. Remember her eco-friendly wedding card that came with a sapling?
If you’ve been following her on the ‘gram then you’d know that the actress is quite vocal about her opinion on the activities that are damaging the environment and often addresses these on her social media.
Now, the new mommy in town is supporting another cause with all her heart. Anushka is raising awareness about a small behavioural change that can have a huge positive impact on the environment—embracing circular fashion. It is a concept in which clothes, shoes and accessories are designed and sourced with the intention to be used and circulated responsibly in society.
In a bid to reduce textile consumer waste, Anushka will share her maternity pieces in an online sale on Dolce Vee’s website today. The proceeds from the sale will go to the NGO SNEHA, which works towards improving maternal health and reducing neonatal morbidity. The best bit is that the wardrobe pieces from her closet will contribute to saving over 2.5 lakh litres of water, underscoring the large impact that each person’s participation in the preloved market can have.
Speaking about her initiative, Anushka revealed to a leading daily that the idea struck her during her pregnancy. “This is a very simple way that each of us can live kinder lives. By sharing pieces back into the circular fashion system and shopping preloved, we have a huge positive impact on the environment.” She added, “During my pregnancy, I thought this phase in our lives is uniquely suited to participate in the circular economy. So I hope we can kickstart this ecosystem together.’
The PK actress also explained the benefits of the entire exchange. She said, “For instance, if even just 1 per cent of pregnant women in urban India bought one piece of preloved maternity clothing over newly manufactured, each year we can conservatively save about as much water as a person drinks in over 200 years! This is a way in which a small action of each individual can make a real difference”.
Way to go, Anushka. This is such an inspiring initiative. If only more people followed in her footsteps, the world would be a much better place.
