How To Celebrate World Environment Day With Your Friends & Family In 2021

World Environment Day is celebrated every year on 5th June since 1974 to address pressing issues related to the environment such as deforestation, global warming, water pollution and so on. Every year, engaging governments, important businesses and the citizens meet in an effort to address the important issues pertaining to the environment.

It’s no secret that our planet needs our help more than ever. Did you know that every three seconds, the world loses enough forest area to cover a football ground? Or the fact that it is believed that up to 90% of the coral reefs could be lost by 2050? The destruction that’s happening is proof that we’re leaving a horrific world behind for generations to come. So, let’s make a pledge to do whatever it is in our hands to protect our beautiful environment. It can be something as basic as not using plastic ever again. After all, a small change goes a long way!

With that being said, here are some Environment Day activities we can all participate in.

Step 1: Take an old shoebox and make a big hole in it on one side.

Hang it near your house and make sure you fill it with bird seeds to enjoy those beautiful beaky creatures.

Make A Compost Bin

We often just throw away the food items we no longer need but did you know that what you consider waste can replace chemical fertilizers?

Here’s what you should do:

  • Take a plastic bin and cover it with a lid. Make multiple holes in the lid.
  • Next, add your wasteful fruits, vegetables, peels etc into it.
  • Layer the bin with some soil and sprinkle water over it.
  • Keep the bin covered and then after sometime, turn it upside down.
  • After 4 weeks, your compost should be done. Use it to give your plants the nutrients they need.

Donate & Recycle Old Stuff

We all love it when the word ‘recycle’ is used as a part of the product packaging, right? But, what have we done to be a rightful part of it?

Don’t throw away your old products, recycle them. Collect multiple bins and store your things, such as plastic containers, clothes, old perfume bottles and give them for recycling. Once you form this as a regular habit, you are going to love doing this.

Also, there are a lot of companies that accept old clothes, beauty containers and so on. Make sure you use those amazing services and bring a healthy change! Donating to the poor is always appreciated.

DIY Seed Cards

You’ll Need:

  • Old newspapers
  • Seeds
  • Water
  • Food colouring

Step 1: In a big bowl, add strips of an old newspaper and let it sit for a few hours.

Step 2: Once you see the paper turning all mushy, it’s your cue to separate it from the water.

Step 3: Add the wet, gooey parer to another bowl and add some seeds into it. You can also add some food colouring (make sure it’s not synthetic) for an interesting twist.

Step 4: After mixing everything together, it’s time to turn it into interesting shapes.

Once the shapes are all dried up, use it to stick on cards or gifts as they add the much-needed personal elements. The receiver can quickly crush the seed shape and plant it in their garden!
