At the end of each year, I look back at days in wanting to move away from them as fast as it is humanly possible. The idea of starting fresh mostly means that I get to get rid of bad days. This year, however, I also want to talk about achievements – because personal gains are rare for women. Even when they exist, they come with a lot of work. Finally, when they do happen for us, people don’t talk about them that much. So we must celebrate victories, even when they’re little – even if they’re time taking.
So we asked women just that, and here are some very sweet answers.
1. “I travelled a lot this year, which is a very emotional thing for me and to make it better, a lot of these travels were for my best friends’ weddings. Such fun! Apart from this, I found my flow as a writer on certain days and got to build a team that I take a lot of pride in. 2023 took a lot away from me, but at the same time, it gave me things that I can keep for life. Can’t complain (beyond a point).”
– Ira
2. “A lot of self-discovery tbh. Like, realising that I will not always have control over situations. Like whatever flows, flows. And I need not fret over it. And this realisation may comes across as sad, but it was also the most liberating at the same.”
– Vasudha Sabharwal
3. “I went on my first international vacation to Europe. It was on my bucket list ever since I was kid and after much procrastination, I finally went for it. It was the best thing that ever happened to me!”
– Aaliyah Jain
4. “Found the perfect oat milk for my coffee.”
– Harshita Singh
5. “While it required a lot of working hard, I got selected for a course that I really wanted. The move away from home was also liberating.”
– Umang Tyagi
6. “I finally accepted that being a mother doesn’t mean that I cannot put myself first.”
– Karuna Ailawadi
7. “This year for me was about small things. I colored my hair and loved it. Then I went on a trip which was fun, but also very freeing.”
– Maanya Manocha
8. “I got to work with my dream firm and it was the only thing that I desperately wanted this year. Can’t really complain.”
– Gauri Khurana
9. “This year was about a lot of unlearning. I realized that I needed to let go of people, even friends to get to a better place, emotionally. I managed to do that.”
– Bhawna
10. “Gathered my self esteem and courage to break off from a toxic relationship. The best decision.🌻”
– Ishi Kanodiya
Just reading all of these feels liberating.
