Indian weddings are simply beautiful. The coming together of two families, the pyaar, the traditions—everything about them is truly exceptional. However, a lot of times it seems like the brides don’t have as much fun. There’s too much pressure on them to look and act a certain way. Take the bridal entry for instance—most brides are expected to act coy and submissive while walking down the aisle with dozens of rishtedaars.
That’s not all! Throughout what’s supposed to be the most special day of her life, the bride is asked to sit quietly, smile politely, and then leave her home in tears. What’s worse is that while the dulhan waits patiently, the groom gets to have the time of his life and a grand entry with all the pomp and cheer. Well, we for one think that it’s high time this changes. Seriously, why should grooms have all the fun?
Malabar Gold and Diamonds seems to agree with us, as their new advertisement is a beautiful take on the same. It shows that brides can and should have fun at their own weddings! The ad is a gorgeous compilation of different brides making epic entries at their wedding and enjoying every bit of their special day. Just like they should!
The ad stars Bollywood icons, Anil Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor. In the video, Anil can be seen asking Kareena where the bride is. To which she replies, “She’s coming, are you ready?” Watch it here:
In the next shot, we get to watch a beautiful bride walk down the aisle all by herself. And in the next sequence, another stunning bride surprises everyone by confidently walking down the stairs to her awaiting groom.
Dulhan number three can be seen making a dhamakedar entry dancing on top of a motorbike cart. The next bride, takes us all by surprise by stopping mid-way down the aisle to go to the music console to put on her fave music. She then dances with her friends like nobody’s watching!
Malabar Gold and Diamond’s bride number five is a breath of fresh air. In this sequence, the couple can be seen walking towards the mandap. The only difference is that the bride boldly leads the way while her husband follows her. Now, this is the type of progressive gesture we’d like to see more of!
Like other brides in the video, the next dulhan makes a solid dancing entry with her gang. As for the last bride in the clip, she can be seen confidently laughing and winking at her husband-to-be when she meets him at the shaadi ka mandap.
At the end of the video, Anil Kapoor mentions, “On her big day, she decides how it’s going to be.” Kareena Kapoor adds, “Get ready to make way for the brides of India.” We gotta say, this ad left us with plenty of food for thought. How long will we allow society to dictate the way a person should behave because of their gender? Brides are as much a part of the wedding as grooms, and should be given an equal say! Period.
Malabar Gold and Diamond’s latest ad has done a great job at breaking society’s prescribed description of femininity. We hope future brides-to-be are taking notes!
