We love to see Indian people conquer the world with their talent. Especially women, because to see South Asian women win is one of the best feelings in the world. Representation matters and it helps us all realise our dreams and identities on a much bigger scale. Which is why we’d love to take a minute and talk about Avanti Nagrath. The Delhi-based model who has been winning hearts over with her work.
Avanti Nagrath is the first Indian model to walk for the luxury fashion house, Versace at Milan Fashion Week. Like many other models, her journey began with at first, walking the runway for Indian designers. Nagrath is a graduate of Modern School, Delhi and has worked with designers such as Ritu Kumar, Manish Malhotra and Shivan & Narresh.
She’s also won the ‘New Age Model of The Year Editorial’ by Indian Fashion Awards. And has been a successful addition to many international fashion shows as well as designers’ collection shoots. For instance, she has worked with designers such as Bottega Veneta, Swarovski and Alaïa. And most recently, walked the Paris Fashion Week as well.
The 20-year-old has also revealed in an interview that it was her mother who asked about her feelings about taking up modelling as a career. Avanti said she actually always liked the idea of it and looked up to models such as Bella Hadid, Emily Ratajkowski and Naomi Campbell! She went on to upload pictures of herself at the age of 14 and began getting approached by agencies soon enough. She says she started managing her school responsibilities and modelling alongside. The rest, as they say, is history!
Well, we’re super happy to see Avanti rule the world with her work!
