Where Is The Tea Sis? ‘Moving In With Malaika’ Is Meh At Best

Truth be told, I am a sucker for cringe reality shows. I live for drama, gossip and unnecessary opinions about my favourite stars and I do it all unapologetically. So, when Malaika Arora announced her reality show, called Moving In With Malaika, I was already sold on the idea. After all, Malla is one of the most-watched celebs in India and everything she does is intriguing.

The moment the show Moving In With Malaika dropped online, I cancelled all my plans, put on my comfy pyjamas and brewed a cup of coffee. Little did I know, how short-lived my happiness would be.

Where Is The Tea Sis?

The biggest selling point of any reality show is the spilling of tea. Remember how shocked we all were when Maheep Kapoor revealed that Sanjay had cheated on her on Fabulous Lives Of Bollywood Wives? Or when the Kardashians learned that Tristan Thompson had cheated on Khloé again on Keeping Up With The Kardashians? But with Malaika’s show, there is nothing gripping or remotely exciting.

Is It A Chat Show?

By now we are used to different formats of reality shows, but Malaika’s series appears more like a chat show. In the first episode, Farah Khan arrives at her home and they sit and talk about their lives but it appears too scripted or rehearsed. Even a few glimpses that we see of Malla don’t feel authentic and everything is too organised to be remotely close to the ‘reality’.

Yes, Malaika Is There, What Else?

The best thing about a reality show is how different people with different lives interact with each other. There is drama, rivalries, love triangles and so much more. Now, I know that the series is just about Malaika but I was hoping to see more of her BTS moments, her reaction to constant pap following around or even her relationship with Arjun Kapoor. But alas, hope breeds eternal misery, right Malaika?

Is It Too Early To Judge?

Only one episode of the show has dropped online and perhaps it is too early for me to judge it. But the benchmark of a good show is how it grabs your attention from the word go. Here’s an example—in Bling Empire, the makers instantly got everyone obsessed with Kevin’s infatuation with Kelly in the first episode itself. So, what’s stopping Malaika from going all out?

To be honest, I am willing to give this show another shot in the hopes that it may get better. But this time bring in the heat Malaika!
